About to Lose a Tooth
the front upper right (from our view) is dangling down, hanging on by a thread
( sorry, I seem to have gone overboard with the thin depth-of-field thing )
Having upgraded my laptop drive, I've finally started processing the thousands of photos I've taken in the last few days, and these two are the most recent of the bunch, from this morning....
Anthony's upper front-left tooth is very loose, just hanging on by a thread (so to speak), so I expect it to fall out today or tomorrow. [UPDATE: or the day after tomorrow.] He's never had a baby tooth fall out naturally, though six months ago, we did have two baby teeth pulled by a dentist.
He posed this morning in a T-shirt he made with his Aunt Natalie the other day, holding a card he spontaneously made for Mommy yesterday (which I asked him to hold for the picture because Mommy will be able to see the photo on my blog before postal mail reaches Kyoto).
Fumie misses us while we're visiting The States, but she knows it's important for Anthony's English, and for his American culture. But I told him that she'll have mixed emotions about his tooth falling out, that on one hand she'll be so proud that he's growing up, but sad that it's while we're away traveling.
My laptop, which I'm using for photo processing during my month in Ohio, found its disk full after a few days of photos of Anthony's cousins. The 80-gig disk needed a quick upgrade.
On Monday I ordered an “On-The-Go Pro 500GB 7200RPM Triple Interface FW800/FW400/USB 2.0 Storage Solution” from Other World Computing, and it arrived Tuesday. It's a small external housing with Firewire and USB interfaces, and holds the same kind of disk as the laptop; I got the 500 gig version, with the faster 7200 RPM disk, which will help with Lightroom (which benefits greatly from faster disk)..
I plugged it in, copied my whole disk with Carbon Copy Cloner (donationware, like my Lightroom plugins, so I sent $20 in thanks), then swapped the disks so that the new 500-gig disk was in the laptop.
After booting, checking the disk-free space, angels sung: “396 giiiiiig freeeeeeeeeee.”
The On-The-Go external disk housing is great.... it doesn't even require a separate power plug, since it's powered over the Firewire cable. I'll use it with the old 80-gig disk as a photo-backup disk.
I've spent all day copying data around, and can now get back to processing photos. Hopefully tomorrow I can start to process some of the photos from the last couple of days, and get back to posting on the blog...

Tractor Ride
Yesterday's rock-throwing party ended abruptly when Grandpa showed up with a tractor and wagon. We loaded the kids (and an adult for safety) and headed off...
Anthony again had Grandma's old camera, and so again after loading both our sets of pictures into Lightroom in the evening, I could interleave the photos and view the event from two perspectives, something I'm finding that I really enjoy.
In the photo above you can see Anthony taking a picture....

Boys at the Lake
Marty and Josh Kreta, Anthony's uncle and cousin
Anthony and I were playing at the sandpile when a gaggle of relatives passed us on the way down to the lake, apparently so the kids could throw rocks into the water (which is real entertainment when you're a kid, or, if there are good skipping rocks, of any age).

Delivery
As I've written before, Anthony has recently shown an interest in photography, and it's gone up a notch here in the countryside with all his cousins. Grandma's old camera was lying around, so he's been using it quite a bit.
Here he's photographing some geese on the lake, followed by the photo he took...

Going for Distance
I have the shot showing how far my brother Mike could throw the rock, but I'm not publishing it to avoid embarrassing him, because he'd be embarrassed if everyone knew that he could barely get the rock a third of the way across. So, I won't publish that one, or even tell you about it. Lips are sealed.
Our rock-throwing escapades ended soon after, when Grandpa showed up with the tractor and a little trailer big enough for the kids, but that'll have to wait for another post....

“Toad”
Anthony found a couple tiny toads in the grass, and brought them over to a “toad house” garden ornament, and put them in. He closed the door and intended that they would live there, but I suggested that he should leave the door open and let the toads decide for themselves. He really didn't like that idea, but in the end relented....
