Enjoying the Blossoms at the Kyoto Imperial Palace Park

I popped over to the Imperial Palace Park ("Kyoto Gosho", 京都御所) yesterday for some blossom Joie de Vivre kind of shots of folks enjoying the many blossoms... mostly peach and cherry these days. It's the same place I took a bunch of blossom closeups seen two weeks ago in "The Buds and Blossoms are Just Peachy", but this time the lens was the very special the Nikkor 300mm f/2.

It was quite crowded, but nevertheless still quite pleasant.

The bokeh with this lens can be great (such as here), but the bright branches in the background of the shot above [...]

New Lightroom Plugin: Exporter to Google Drive

I've just released a new plugin for Adobe Lightroom, to publish directly to Google Drive. I got a number of requests after Trey Ratcliff mentioned how Google Drive can allow you to display full-resolution photos in Google Plus (in his article "Google+ Now Allows Full-Rez Photos!"), so I whipped the plugin together.

I don't know whether Trey uses Lightroom, but if he does, he may find this of use, but considering his tendency toward HDR, he probably works more in Photoshop. Anyway, perhaps someone will find this useful.

Here it is:   Jeffrey’s "Export [...]

A Few Better Pics of Anthony

I appreciate that at 10 years old Anthony can still be cute, so I like yesterday's post about LEGO in that sense, but the photographer in me wishes the photos were better, so here are some better shots.

In December when Paul Barr and I were doing the portraiture practice (Paul's shots of me and my shots of Paul), Anthony happened to come by on his way home from school...

A couple of days later he had a concert at school (a small orchestra made up of 4th-6th graders), where he played guitar and various percussion. Here are a couple [...]

Disappointed in Fstoppers.com: Wholesale Copyright Infringement as a Business Model

I used to enjoy reading about cool photography-related things on Fstoppers.com, but that was before I realized that their business model is apparently built on systematic wholesale copyright violation. They regularly publish large numbers of copyrighted photos without permission from the photographer. They just take what they want to pad their site, building their user base and, presumably, their revenues.

For Example...

When this issue surfaced a couple of weeks ago with one article filled with copyright violations (more on that later), I was shocked that a photography site as respected as Fstoppers could allow such a slip, but [...]

Revisiting Flower Arrangements at the Shoren’in Temple

Revisiting last fall's ikebana (flower arranging) event at the Shoren'in Temple, previously seen in these posts:

Photography is not normally allowed in this temple, but it was for this event.

I ended up chatting with the American guy taking the photo above. It turns out that he had just met the lady in the kimono and done a quick picture, and when she happened by as we talked, he introduced us. She accepted my request to take a quick portrait; not wanting to keep her waiting, I suggested that I'd do it right then and there standing (coincidentally) about where [...]
