Search ResultsThe cold that I've had for the last couple of weeks has finally started to subside, which is good timing (finally!) because it allowed us to make a trip we've been planning for a while, an overnight a few hours north by train to Kanazawa, to see Japanese pop singer Kousuke Atari (中孝介) in concert again. (We've also seen him in Miyajima, twice in Tokyo, in Osaka, and in Takamatsu.) Anyway, earlier today I was killing time in the hotel lobby after we checked out when applause erupted from the hotel's "wedding chapel", and the couple above emerged. Even at [...] View full post » This is the bird's-eye view of the scene shown in the Extremely Blue Light Display post from two weeks ago. The light display is on a hillside in Roppongi Hills (an area of Tokyo, Japan); the photo was taken from a pedestrian walkway that goes over a road fronting the display. The two side sections were static, while the display in the center section flashed and undulated from time to time. Fumie and I were in Tokyo two weeks ago for another concert by Kousuke Atari, having won in a drawing one of the 150 pairs of tickets for the [...] View full post » Fumie and I made an overnight trip to the city of Takamatsu, in Kagawa Prefecture, on the large island of Shikoku, Japan, to see pop singer Kousuke Atari (中孝介) in concert. Just as I did the last time we made an overnight trip (which was also to see Kousuke Atari in concert, at a shrine in Miyajima), I awoke early to see what photo opportunities there might be in the early of morning. Unlike Miyajima and our extended time there, which produced so many nice (or story-telling) pictures that I had to make a Miyajima category on my blog, we [...] View full post » As I earlier posted from our trip to Miyajima an island near Hiroshima, Japan, one of the main photographic attractions is the large main gate of the Itsukushima Shrine (厳島神社、宮島). It's off the coast in the intertidal zone, so when the tide is in, it's in the water and really pretty. There's a nice daytime shot of it at high tide at the end of this post, and on another post, some night shots. Perhaps it's just the geek in me, but I think there's a certain interest to it even at low tide. I like to see how things [...] View full post » More pictures from our short trip to Miyajima Island, Japan two weeks ago. The view above, taken on the ferry ride over, doesn't show much detail, but does show the relative positions of a few landmarks, including the famous main gate of the Itsukushima Shrine (厳島神社、宮島) almost a mile away, the smaller stone gate for the foot path to the shrine, and our hotel. (Mouseover the bold words in this paragraph to see the items highlighted in the photo.) You can also see Mt. Misen in the center, which I posted about recently. As you get a bit closer (and [...] View full post » |
