Anthony’s Attention to Biological Detail

Anthony drew a picture of himself and Mommy:

In it, he's holding hands with Mommy. They both have legs, but Mommy has no shoes. Mommy has sunglasses, and Anthony has "a police hat" and hair underneath.

Thoughtfully, he also included the requisite biology to support pooping, peeing, and diarrhea.

Fostering a Dislike of Sweets

Yesterday while returning from Anthony's gymnastics class (it was jump-rope day), I gave directions to a couple of lost tourists from northern Japan. In appreciation, they gave Anthony a box of chocolate. It was almost dinner time, but I said that he could have some after dinner.

We try to limit his junk food, as I've written before. We don't deny it totally, but save it for special occasions so that it doesn't become habit. He does enjoy it when he gets it, like all kids, especially chocolate.

More Birthday Presents for Anthony

Anthony turned four years old yesterday, but it was a long day, so we put off opening the present sent by his Aunt Natalie and Uncle Alan until today. (We still have presents from both sets of grandparents to give as well.... more fun for another day!)

Natalie and Alan put together a wonderful set of surprises for Anthony. I'll let his face tell the story....

The pictures ended here as he wanted me to read all three books to him, which I most happily did.

I still have my cold, but watching his joy made me forget about it [...]

Anthony Turns Four

Anthony turned four today.

Due to a fluke with Fumie's schedule, I made his bento this morning, following simple but detailed instructions that Fumie had left. The result wasn't pretty, but I judged that it probably wouldn't kill him.

Fumie and I both picked him up from preschool, and on the walk back to the car I asked how the bento was. His understated reply was "It was okay; I didn't throw up." (He used the Japanese ge for "throw up")
