Archive for the 'Wigglegrams' Category

“Wigglegram” is my term for an interactive “photo” that you can wiggle with the mouse to get a strong sense of 3D. I introduced the concept in this article, and describe a bit on how they’re made here. Articles in this category contain at least one wigglegram.

Kyoto’s Amazing Haradanien Garden, Part 4

Today's post is part four on the Haradanien Garden (原谷苑) in north-western Kyoto (prior parts: one, two, three, and a bonus couple photo shoot). Today's simple post includes three more wigglegrams, adding to those in part three and my first post from the garden.

Kyoto’s Amazing Haradanien Garden, Part 3

This post is a continuation earlier parts of "Kyoto’s Amazing Haradanien Garden", where in part one I introduced the location, and in part two I explained how it's wonderful even though it's quite crowded.

Folks wanting a couple shot would usually ask someone walking by to take it, but the couple above use a timer. (I tried to get the camera in focus and missed it badly, but I still like the vibe of the shot.)

As I mentioned in part two, the layout of the garden -- criss-crossing paths wandering on a hillside punctuated by dense foliage -- makes [...]

A Wigglegram from Kyoto’s Stunning Haradanien Forest Garden of Blossoms

I made my first visit the other day to the Haradanien Garden (原谷苑) in northwest of Kyoto, a few kilometers into the mountains beyond Kinkakuji ("the Golden Pavilion"). It was, without question, the most amazing place to see blossoms (cherry and others) that I'd ever been, by orders of magnitude. "Stunning", "Awesome", and other overused platitudes don't do it justice, at least when at the peak of season when I visited.

It's been a while since I've done a wigglegram, so even though I've not yet gone over the photos from the visit, I went ahead and grabbed out enough [...]

A Wigglegram from the Well-Named “Fallen Leaf Shrine” in Northern Kyoto

Here's a wigglegram (which I hereby dub in Japanese as「クネクネ写真」) from an outing a few days ago to the "Fallen Leaf Shrine" (岩戸落葉神社) in the mountains north of Kyoto.

That's at the same place as my first try at the whole "stereo photo" thing earlier this month, a vist first seen in "A Slightly Early Visit to Kyoto's Fallen-Leaf Shrine".

This subsequent visit is after an additional 11 days of leaf fall. Despite how beautiful they are, it's rare for a temple or shrine to let fallen leaves accumulate; they clean them every day or multiple times per day. But [...]

That Amazing Entrance Path of Kyoto Koutouin Temple

I stopped by the Koutouin Temple the other day, in the Daitokuji complex in north-central Kyoto. It wasn't quite peak of its fall-foliage colors, but it was quite. (I stopped by two years ago at a time when it was at the peak of color and it's quite nice then as well.)

One of my personal favorite photos comes from the first time I visited this temple, of a lady in kimono on this path.

Anyway, here's a wigglegram to give you more of a sense of the view...

And for good measure, here's a vertical-background view...

Sort of odd, [...]
