More From Nanzenji (with desktop background bonuses)

I'd like to share a few more shots from yesterday's impromptu visit to Nanzenji (南禅寺 the Nanzen Temple, Kyoto Japan). The path above seems to lead to some part of the temple complex, but I've never seen anyone on it. I like the view, and think it might make a nice desktop background, so have provided links to both widescreen and standard-format versions.

If incense smoke wafts over your head, you'll become smarter..... or so it is said.

After the "Looking for Goodies" shot from yesterday's post, Anthony came running to me with the candy he'd procured. I wasn't able [...]

Old Wood-Veneer Siding (Desktop Background)

In my post the other day about my randomly photographed stroll in Kyoto, I included a photo of a mud-packed wall with badly-damaged wood-veneer siding. The picture above is the wall of the house next door, which is in much better shape.

I thought some might find it appealing as a desktop background, so under the picture I've included links to various sizes, in both standard and widescreen aspect ratios.

A wider view of the house shows a much less compelling view.

Part of the art of photography is knowing what to hide.

“A Buncha’ Stones” Desktop Background

Unlike yesterday when I photographed the voluptuous cherry blossoms of my previous post, today was misty/spritzy all day. One nice thing about such days is that the bed of stones filling some of the alcoves in my building glisten sumptuously, and I enjoy them for brief moments as I walk by.

On one such day, I paused to take a picture of them, and I thought some might enjoy such an image as a desktop background, and hence this post. Links below the image above lead to sizes appropriate for common desktops, both standard and widescreen.

Personally, I like [...]

Sakura and the Main Gate of the Heian Shrine (With Desktop Background)

We ran out of milk at lunch time, and in stepping out the front door on the way to the convenience store, for some reason the view struck me in a way I hadn't noticed before. So I got the milk, then went back to take a picture.

Living so close to it, the gate certainly has appeared plenty of times in photos on my blog, including:

Two views (snowy and sunny) of the main gate of the Heian Shrine Fire Department Parade, and my new D200 Camera The main gate of the Heian Shrine, from a different angle Weddings [...]

Getting Started With Cherry-Blossom Pictures (with a Desktop Background Bonus)

I mentioned two weeks ago that I'd post some cherry-blossom pictures from last year, as we await this year's season, and so today I begin. To help get me in the mood, I'll start with a picture from my balcony of the trees across the river, and then two from ground level. These were taken on April 7th last year.

I'm not very confident of their color balance -- they seem to have a redish tint to me -- but the sun was heading down, so perhaps it's deserved.

I like these because they show the fluffy, cloud-like nature of [...]
