Archive for the 'Desktop Backgrounds' CategoryPosts with desktop-background images I’ve made Yesterday I posted a few pictures in Part 1 on a particularly photogenic ravine first seen in last week's "Scenes From Mountain Roads in Northern Kyoto". This post is a bunch more, mostly without comment. First, again, here is the view from the road... I climbed up into that for the rest of the pictures. The trees aren't actually all that tall... maybe 25-30m (~7 or 8 stories tall), but they're plenty tall enough to awe. This next one isn't much in the thumbnail version, but it's quite something else when viewed full screen... While heading back down, I came [...] View full post » In last week's "Scenes From Mountain Roads in Northern Kyoto" I showed a view from the road looking up a steep ravine (this pic) and a bit of detail of its carpet of ferns (this pic), and mentioned that I'd climbed up the steep ravine for more photos. This post is just a few, three shots taken from the same location halfway up the ravine, at different focal lengths... The sense of elevation disappears at the longer focal length, but this is my favorite photo of the three. Continued here... View full post » It was almost a month ago that I made the first drive through the rural mountain villages of Uji City (southern Kyoto Prefecture, Japan) with friends Katsunori Shimada and Paul Barr. We went again the next week, and on other photographic adventures since, but I still have photos I want to share from that first trip, so that's what this post is. What do you [...] View full post » If the pic above looks familiar, it's because I had a portrait version of it on "An Amazing Day of Photography at Some Eastern-Kyoto Temples" back in April. I was rummaging around in my Lightroom catalog today and got depressed at how many posts are waiting for me to get around to them -- I have so much I want to share -- so I thought I'd start with a few more from the morning of the photogenic stroll that produced that post. Having recently posted "Trying Some Hard-Edged Black and White", I thought I see what I could do [...] View full post » For the past two Thursdays I've headed out on photo expeditions to the twisty rural mountain roads of Uji City (southeast of Kyoto) with Shimada-san and Paul Barr. Today we'll switch it up and hit some mountain villages to the north of Kyoto, but I've still got so much from the earlier trips I want to post. Since we're leaving in a few minutes, I'll just post a few quick shots from the first trip, which has already yielded "Scenes From Rural Japan: Mountain Village in Uji City" and "Rural Uji's Kiyotakigyuu Shrine", among others... While driving through a deeply-forested [...] View full post » |
