This post continues from "New Views of Kyoto from Shogunzuka’s New Observation Deck", about some big construction at Shougunzuka (将軍家) on a mountain overlooking eastern Kyoto that finally completed last fall. This post looks at the "new" temple building.

In that previous post I showed this photo of the new temple building from the outside:

This looks a bit odd for a temple building, and from the back you can see that it has what appears to be distinctly-new and distinctly-old sections:

When I mention "Shogunzuka", it can refer to an overlook with nice views of Kyoto that I often visit for sunsets, or its nearby temple. The latter has long had a dilapidated observation deck, but for the last year they were working on a remodel, and this past October they finally unveiled a new temple building and spiffy observation deck.

This past October 8th they finally had the grand opening, so I popped up for a visit.

We had a brief heavy rain this afternoon a couple of hours before sunset, and so with the clearing air I thought to make a visit to check out the views from the Shogunzuka Overlook, which I haven't been to in a while. (However, the "nearby photos" link under any photo brings you to the bazillion photos I've posted from up here over the years.)

I popped up to Shogunzuka the other day for the first time in ages, for what I hoped was a promising sunset that ended up being very hazy, lending more of a moody shrouded feeling than "dazzling", but a little over-exuberance in Lightroom brings out a variety of dynamic results.

A couple of months ago I posted some similar shots in "Views of Kyoto From Shogunzuka Over The Years", and some others last summer in "Anatomy of a Nice Kyoto Sunset", so I worry I might wear out this kind of overprocessing that's best only in moderation, but I guess [...]

Continuing to dip into my 2010-and-before archives because my main computer is in the shop, today's posts are various views from the Shogunzuka overlook (将軍家) in eastern Kyoto, a 30-minute hike (or a 5-minute drive) from my place.

I used Lightroom's Map module to bring up all the images that are geoencoded to that spot (so that excludes early images before I started to geoencode), and picked some.
