Anthony and I were playing at the sandpile when a gaggle of relatives passed us on the way down to the lake, apparently so the kids could throw rocks into the water (which is real entertainment when you're a kid, or, if there are good skipping rocks, of any age).

I wasn't sure how many rocks were down by the lake, so I had Anthony fill a bucket with pebbles from the driveway...

Delivery

As I've written before, Anthony has recently shown an interest in photography, and it's gone up a notch here in the countryside with all his cousins. Grandma's old camera was lying around, so he's been using it quite a bit.

Here he's photographing some geese on the lake, followed by the photo he took...

Compare the photo above, which I took, to the one below that Anthony took at about the same time, from about the same position....

Going for Distance

I have the shot showing how far my brother Mike could throw the rock, but I'm not publishing it to avoid embarrassing him, because he'd be embarrassed if everyone knew that he could barely get the rock a third of the way across. So, I won't publish that one, or even tell you about it. Lips are sealed.

Our rock-throwing escapades ended soon after, when Grandpa showed up with the tractor and a little trailer big enough for the kids, but that'll have to wait for another post....

Comments so far....

It sure looks like tons of fun…..wish I were there. Give hugs and kisses to everyone for me.

Thanks for not “outing” my lack of a rifle arm. Funny, I don’t see any photos of how far YOU could throw. Coincidence? I think not.

You learn how to use a camera, and I’ll throw a rock for you ;-) —Jeffy

We seem to have here a pluperfect examplification of paralepsis . And we ALL wish Aunt Lizzie was here with us too. (P.S. Readers, please excuse my obfuscatorysesquipedalianism and made-up words)

Many years ago when I drove by a giant pile of dirt sitting in a construction site. On that pile of dirt say two young boys throwing dirt clods down the hill. It reminded my so much of myself as a child playing in the vacant lot next to the house I grew up in. I was delighted to see that THREE hours later on my way home the boys were STILL sitting on the giant pile of dirt throwing dirt clods. In a world filled with Gameboy’s it’s nice to know there are still kids that enjoy the simple pleasures.

Hey, Omi, all safe and out of the way in California…wanna trade places for a few days? Please? Just long enough for me to catch my breath? Whew! Where DO they get that energy….I could use an I.V. of it right now. It is going to be SO quiet when they leave that I’m missing them all already. On the other hand…

Hey there Grandma Friedl,

I’d trade places in a heartbeat! Then, of course, I’d have to take an extended vacation!

Kiss each and every baby for me. I’m missing my two very much! Huge hugs to Chickee and Mike as well and greetings to Grandpa Friedl and the entire gang!

Hang in there!

Love, Omi
