Wow, my third post of the day. I didn't<\/span> intend to take any pictures\ntoday, but with Anthony's\nstyle choices<\/a> in the morning, and the stunningly orange sunset<\/a>\nin the evening, I've had no choice.<\/p>\n\n

On top of that, I went a<\/span> bit early to pick up Anthony from school, and\nstopped in to the grounds of the old imperial palace (Kyoto Gosho) to check\non the fall foliage there. I think<\/span> it's safe to say that the opening act is\non stage, but the headliners are still in the dressing room.<\/p>\n\n

The “opening act” are some of the trees that turn early. We've seen some\nalready last weekend in the\nmountains<\/a>, and this weekend in posts of my friend Thomas' in Kyoto<\/a> and in Kibune<\/a>, and here again\ntoday as some young kids prepared to play in the park during a school<\/span>\nouting...<\/p>\n\n

The headliners are the maple, the momiji<\/i>, the trees whose colors\nbecome so consistently amazing that they have become a synonym<\/span> in Japanese for\n“fall colors” in the same way that “Kleenex” means “facial tissue” (but,\ner, nicer).<\/p>\n\n

There are plenty of leaves that have turned and fallen, but we still await the main show.<\/p>\n\n

Sometimes you do see a touch of color starting to emerge, and it can be nice, but it's just not there<\/i> yet....<\/p>\n\n

The tree over the ducks, with a touch<\/span> of color emerging, will progress\nthrough its color and losing its leaves, and will be completely bare before\nthe real fireworks begin (as this picture<\/a> can\nattest, taken December 5th last year, you can see this tree as the bare\ncloud of branches in the far right).<\/p>\n\n

I sorta' like this shot of a huge fallen treestump that kids love to play on<\/a>. Like\nthis\nevening's sunset pictures<\/a>, I had to<\/span> wrestle with the data in Lightroom\nto keep the bright colors of the foreground leaves from blowing out to\nwhite, but I was<\/span> mostly successful...<\/p>\n\n

On the other hand, since I'd been doing so much with the develop\nsettings, I decided<\/span> to have some fun with this otherwise-throwaway\nshot....<\/p>\n\n

All the colors and the contrast are exaggerated, and the result is far\nfrom what was actually visible on this overcast-with-occasional-sun day. The result<\/span> is sort of similar to this “Funky Joy” shot of\nAnthony<\/a> and the Dave Hill look<\/a>.\nAs I've written before<\/a>\n(several times<\/a>), there\nare a lot<\/span> of fun, creative things you can do right in Lightroom.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
