Fumie awoke to find it propped up\nagainst her computer, showed me, and we both dropped our jaw.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>It appears that he started writing on <span class='nobr'>a Post<\/span>-It type note, then kept\nadding them as he continued the message. Sometimes he wrote in the wrong\ndirection, there's no punctuation, and <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> other mistakes, but wow, it's\njust <i>wonderful<\/i> to us.<\/p>\n\n<style type='text\/css'>\n   span.j964 { display: block; font-weight:bold; font-size:105%; margin-bottom:5px }\n   span.e964 { display: block; margin-bottom:24px }\n<\/style>\n\n<p>You can see what he actually wrote at right. Here's <span class='nobr'>a transcription<\/span> (with punctuation added, and <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> typos corrected) and translation...<\/p>\n\n<div style='margin-left:3em'>\n<p>\n   <span class='j964'>\u307e\u307e \u3059\u304d\u3002<\/span>\n   <span class='e964'>Mommy, <span class='nobr'>I love you<\/span>.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n   <span class='j964'>\u307e\u307e\u3001\u3069\u3093\u306a \u305f\u3079\u3082\u306e \u304c \u3059\u304d\uff1f<\/span>\n   <span class='e964'>Mommy, what kind of food do you like?<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n   <span class='j964'>\u307c\u304f \u306f \u3082\u3082 \u304c \u3059\u304d\u3002<\/span>\n   <span class='e964'><span class='nobr'>I like<\/span> peaches.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n   <span class='j964'>\u3053\u3053 \u306b \u3058\u3076\u3093 \u306e \u3059\u304d\u306a \u305f\u3079\u3082\u306e \u3092 <span class='nobr'>\u3053\u3053 \u306b<\/span> <span class='nobr'>\u304b\u3044\u3066\u3002<\/span><\/span>\n   <span class='e964'>In here, write the kind of food you like here.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>At the bottom, after the text, are arrows pointing to <span class='nobr'>a little<\/span> box in\nwhich she's to write her answer.<\/p>\n\n<p>He doesn't know how to write all those characters yet by himself, so he\nused <span class='nobr'>a little<\/span> electronic &#8220;learn the letters&#8221; type of thing &ndash; pictured\nbelow &ndash; to make sure he got the right characters.<\/p>\n\n<p>The alphabet he used (<a\nhref=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hiragana\">Hiragana<\/a>) is pretty much\nstraight phonetic, so there's no &#8220;spelling&#8221; involved here, so in this\nrespect what he did is substantially easier than the same feat would be in\nEnglish.
