The outing that I mentioned yesterday (that produced the car at sunset\nadvertisement-esque shot<\/a>) was an hour's drive away, to the\nGerman-themed Blume\u306e\u4e18<\/a><\/b>, a name<\/span> with German and Japan components\nthat translates in English to “flower hill”. It's a park<\/span> full of flowers,\nfarms, restaurants, shops, and entertainment, that was pleasant, although\nas far as I could<\/span> tell, the German theme extended only so far as the font\nused for signs, and the music played throughout the mini town mall.<\/p>\n\n

We didn't really know what to expect, and were pleasantly surprised to\nfind an enjoyable day. We went with<\/span> the intent to try a BBQ<\/span> restaurant that\nFumie had read about, but as we arrived at the almost deserted park,\nAnthony's attention was drawn to a magic<\/span> show that was going on.<\/p>\n\n

The fuddy-duddy bumbling magician with no sense of showmanship was so\nbad that it was actually entertaining to witness. There's no way he could\nhave faked how bad he was... it took years and years of practice, manually\ngoing through the same mechanical steps to the same gags day after day,\ndecade after decade, until he could do them blindfolded and without regard to\nthe audience. He had truly<\/span> achieved the pinnacle of mediocrity.<\/p>\n\n

But that made it fun; you couldn't help but laugh.<\/p>\n\n

To kids, of course, it was all still magic, so it was wonderful to\nsee Anthony be amazed and astonished. I tried<\/span> to capture the look in the\nshots above and below, but it's hard to get.<\/p>\n\n

After dinner at a BBQ restaurant that could seat 100+ families (but had\nonly two others besides us when we were there), we made our way to a\ngo<\/span>-cart area, where Anthony got to drive for the first time in his life...<\/p>\n\n

Each lap was a separate “ride” (at $7\/ride) and took about two and a\nhalf<\/span> minutes. By the end<\/span> of the second lap, he knew what he was doing and\nfelt much more comfortable....<\/p>\n\n
