In Lightroom, I\n&#8220;painted&#8221; negative exposure on the big lighted sign in the center, to bring\nout some of the letting, which had been totally blown-out white. <span class='nobr'>It reveals<\/span> that the name of the place is <i>kashintei<\/i> <span class='nobr'>(\u82b1\u5fc3\u4ead),<\/span> for whatever\nthat's worth.<\/p>\n\n<p>Because of the strange things that happen to <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2008-08-06\/901\">digitally-encoded colors near\nthe limits of brightness<\/a>, <span class='nobr'>I also painted<\/span> on <span class='nobr'>a lot<\/span> of desaturation, so\nthat the sign wouldn't turn wonky, unrealistic colors as <span class='nobr'>I toned<\/span> down its\nbrightness. Perhaps the sheer whiteness <span class='nobr'>I ended<\/span> up with looks odd in this\ndecidedly warm scene, so <span class='nobr'>I should<\/span> have painted on <span class='nobr'>a bit<\/span> of the\nyellow-orange that is pervasive everywhere else. Lightroom allows for that,\nbut <span class='nobr'>I haven't<\/span> figured out <span class='nobr'>a way<\/span> to sample <span class='nobr'>a color<\/span> from the image when\nselecting <span class='nobr'>a color<\/span> to tinge with, so at this point it's more trouble than\nit's worth.
