Prior to last week's visit to Vancouver<\/a> and Whistler<\/a>, I'd been enjoying<\/span> the dynamic clouds during my\ntrip to Ohio<\/a> for the summer.\n\n(I posted<\/span> some sorta' pretty cloud pictures\nhere<\/a>,\nhere<\/a>,\nand\nhere<\/a>.)\n\n<\/p>\n\n

I'm back in Ohio now for another week or so, but the weather has been\ncold and drizzly, so I'm not getting any of the wonderful cloudscapes we\nhad before. Still, I have plenty<\/span> of pictures from before the Canada trip. The ones on<\/span> this post are from a 10<\/span>-minute walk with the camera down by the\nlake, one afternoon three weeks ago...<\/p>\n\n

I love the clouds in the picture above, but I had<\/span> to apply some HDR-like<\/a> processing to get\nthe rest to come out. Only, I didn't<\/span> use HDR... just some of what Lightroom\ncalls “Fill Light” added to bring the grass out of darkness. It took 5<\/span> seconds.<\/p>\n\n

I also used the local corrections that are new in Lightroom 2<\/span> to add a\nslight<\/span> touch of extra brightness to the cattail. That took longer –\nperhaps three minutes – because I had<\/span> to carefully paint the\ncorrection onto just the cattail and its stem.<\/p>\n\n

I knew that having the sky\/clouds in the background would make for a\nchallenging<\/span> situation, so I stood<\/span> on my toes to find an angle that put the\nsky out of the picture...<\/p>\n\n

Like any kid who grows up in the countryside, I loved<\/span> to play with these\nthings when I was<\/span> a kid,<\/span> using and abusing them until they erupted in a\nseed<\/span>-scattering explosion that surely pleased Mother Nature. I've got some\npictures of Anthony tickling his cousin Josh<\/a> with one that\nI'll have to get around to posting.<\/p>\n\n
