The clouds, these two weeks while I've been in\nOhio<\/a>, have been wonderful. The weather<\/span> has been dynamic – clear\none moment, thunderstorms the next – and so there have been many\ntypes of clouds, mostly really beautiful.<\/p>\n\n

On a typical afternoon, with a deep, clear blue sky hosting towering\npuffballs of richly detailed cumulus clouds, I marvel<\/span> at the beauty. Kyoto\nis normally fairly humid and hazy, so even when it has puffy clouds,\nthey're not set against a deep<\/span> blue background. Ohio's clouds are better,\nfor sure, but even the locals are commenting at how wonderful the clouds\nare this week.<\/p>\n\n

With the pretty cloudscapes, I've been trying to capture some of it in\nphotos, but the results are always bland. I really<\/span> don't know how to take\npictures of white fluffy clouds, because the beauty is in both the details\n– the sharply delineated edges, and the many puffy folds of the cloud\n– and also in the big picture... the expanse of blue sky dotted by\nclouds, the trees, the grass, the sun. I don't<\/span> know how to capture both.<\/p>\n\n

But that doesn't stop me from trying, almost every day.<\/p>\n\n

A couple of days ago, I saw some<\/span> amazing clouds in the late afternoon,\nand not having a wide<\/span> view at my folks' place due to all the trees, I headed<\/span> out to the local little league fields (where Anthony launched a rocket<\/span><\/a>\nlast year).<\/p>\n\n

The weather was dynamic, and so by the time I got<\/span> there, the clouds had\nchanged considerably for the worse....<\/p>\n\n

At least Anthony was having fun, doing something that involved smashing rocks.<\/p>\n\n

Toward sunset, there were some pretty views, but I couldn't<\/span> really\ncapture any of them well....<\/p>\n\n

I actually took the one above while sitting in the car on my way out,\nhaving been stopped in my tracks by the sudden “hand of God” streams of\nlight radiating from the clouds far in the distance. They barely show up in\nthe photo, but they were almost graspable at the time.<\/p>\n\n

On the way out, we stopped for a bit<\/span> at a playground,<\/span> where Anthony\nscampered up a big<\/span> pile of wood chips....<\/p>\n\n

The sun had set for us, but some of the big, puffy cumulus clouds were\nstill in the area, far above the lower storm clouds that were starting to\nroll in. The way-up-there puffy clouds were basking in the golden rays of\ntheir own sunset....<\/p>\n\n
