Anthony started summer school today, and had a great<\/span> time.<\/p>\n\n

We saw a bunny in the lawn when we came home, and so Anthony did his\nninja-sneak moves to get a close<\/span> look at it. In the process<\/span>, we saw\nanother bunny, two groundhogs, and a gaggle<\/span> of geese. Country living has\nits benefits.<\/p>\n\n

Along those same lines, while stalking the bunny, a particularly<\/span> vivid\nflower almost burned my retinas. There are flowers of every imaginable\ncolors all over my folks' property, but these particular flowers, even\nthough it was mostly cloudy and overcast with some impending rain,\npositively glowed<\/i> as if they were from Chernobyl.<\/p>\n\n

Sadly, the current state-of-the-art in digital imaging just can't handle\nthis kind of scene.\n\n(Update:<\/b> Sadly, my joe-consumer MacBook LCD<\/i> can't handle this scene.)<\/b>\n\n\nI underexposed it a bit so that I wouldn't<\/span> blow out any\nof the color channels, so the detail has been captured, but restoring the\nbrightness even a little<\/span> causes the detail in the flower to be totally\nlost. It all becomes<\/span> one big solid mushy mess.<\/p>\n\n

I'm not exactly sure why this needs to be this way – is the\ndynamic range of the flower really that wide? – but it's likely\nrelated to the dynamic-range issues I brought<\/span> in my post on HDR<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n
