So, what's one to do for <span class='nobr'>a good<\/span> cup\nof coffee at home?\n\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"img_right\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/drippack.gif\" width=\"370\" height=\"118\"\nid=\"idrippack\"\/><\/div>\n<h3>Hot Coffee<\/h3>\n\n<p>\n\n\nLuckily, once while visiting an office, <span class='nobr'>I was served<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a cup<\/span> of coffee so\ntasty that <span class='nobr'>I had<\/span> to ask its source. <span class='nobr'>It turned<\/span> out to be a <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.brooks.co.jp\/top\/c_dr.php\">Brooks single-serving\n&#8220;drip-pack coffee&#8221;<\/a>. <span class='nobr'>As the image<\/span> on the right (which <span class='nobr'>I stole<\/span> from their\nweb site) shows, these are small packs of coffee grounds with <span class='nobr'>a built<\/span>-in\nholder that folds out and allows the pack to be positioned above the cup,\ninto which you then pour boiling water.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nThey have many types, including &#8220;Moka&#8221;, &#8220;Brazil&#8221;, &#8220;Columbian&#8221;, &#8220;Guatemala&#8221;,\n&#8220;Kenya&#8221;, &#8220;Mild Blend&#8221;, &#8220;European Blend&#8221;, and <span class='nobr'>a bunch<\/span> of flavored ones,\nincluding &#8220;Caramel&#8221; and &#8220;Chocolate Cream&#8221;. They even have <span class='nobr'>a decaf<\/span> version.\n\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n\nThe flavor-added ones sounded disgusting at first (<span class='nobr'>I drink<\/span> my coffee\nblack), but despite having <span class='nobr'>a wonderfully<\/span> penetrating aroma, the flavor\nitself is light and very well balanced. <span class='nobr'>It's good coffee<\/span> with <span class='nobr'>a hint<\/span> of\nflavoring, where the flavoring knows that it's second fiddle to the good\ncoffee taste.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nThe prices are reasonable, too. <span class='nobr'>A set of<\/span> 75 packs (mix of five different\nflavors) costs 26 yen (about 23 US cents) each, and that's after tax, with\nfree shipping. When you buy in larger quantities (200 packs), the price\ngoes down to about 19 yen (16 cents) each. Recommended.\n\n<\/p>\n<h3>Ice Coffee<\/h3>\n<p>\n\nWith ice coffee, probably more popular in Japan than hot coffee, it's even\nharder to find <span class='nobr'>a good<\/span> cup. <span class='nobr'>I drink<\/span> hot coffee black, but for some reason <span class='nobr'>I\n\nfind<\/span> that ice coffee needs <span class='nobr'>a bit<\/span> of sugar and milk. Maybe that's because <span class='nobr'>I\nsimply<\/span> can't find <span class='nobr'>a truly<\/span> good cup. Anyway, after having tried many, <span class='nobr'>I stumbled<\/span> upon <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sej.co.jp\/english\/\">7-11<\/a>'s\n\u3044\u3064\u3082\u306e\u30b3\u30fc\u30d2\n(&#8220;Anytime Coffee&#8221;), made for 7-11 by <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.ucc.co.jp\">UCC<\/a>, <span class='nobr'>a large<\/span> Japanese coffee company.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nThis ice coffee comes in liter packs, like milk and orange juice. <span class='nobr'>It's lightly<\/span> sweetened, and unlike any other ice coffee <span class='nobr'>I can<\/span> recall, actually\ntastes good. <span class='nobr'>I have it<\/span> over ice with <span class='nobr'>a splash<\/span> of milk. <span class='nobr'>And being<\/span> 7-11's\nhouse brand, it's easy to find. <span class='nobr'>I wish there<\/span> was <span class='nobr'>a decaf<\/span> version, but I've\nnever seen <span class='nobr'>a decaf<\/span> ice coffee in Japan, ever. (Decaf anything is not\npopular in Japan; Coke-Cola doesn't even sell Caffeine-Free Coke in Japan.)\n\n<\/p><p>\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> I love coffee, but it's hard to find a good cup, especially decaf.
