It was fairly warm in Kyoto today – 36°C (98°F) in the\nshade – but the humidity was uncharacteristically low, so it was\nfairly pleasant if you were in the shade. At least, I think<\/span> so... I never<\/span> left the air-conditioning of the house! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n

I did notice from the living-room window a guy<\/span> fishing in the little\nriver. He was there<\/span> for hours.<\/p>\n\n

We took the opportunity to enjoy a melon<\/span> we received as a gift<\/span> from our chef neighbor (the same one who gave us the\namazing matsutake mushrooms<\/a> last year).<\/p>\n\n

I'm not sure where these melons fit into the culture, but for some\nreason, the best ones can run into the thousands of dollars each<\/i>. I hope this<\/span> wasn't one because such extravagance would be wasted on us, but\nit was delicious<\/i>, and clearly better than melon I'd ever had. Ever. I'm not a<\/span> big fan of melons – the sweetness usually gets to me after\njust a few<\/span> bites – but this one was just amazing. Pure heaven. Tasty with a capital<\/span> 't'.<\/p>\n\n
