The first thing I noticed upon arrival during our visit to the Kamo no\nShirabe<\/i> cafe<\/a> in Shiga last month were the flowers that separated\nthe parking spaces from the walkway. It had been<\/span> sprinkling, so they were\nphotogenicly wet, and they were so vividly colored that they seemed to\nglow in the overcast light.<\/p>\n\n

I got fooled again by a syrphid fly (AKA<\/i> hoverfly<\/a>), a fly<\/span>\nbeneficial to gardens (it eats pest insects) whose primary means of defense\nis to look like a bee<\/span> or a wasp.<\/span> It was just<\/span> about a year<\/span> ago that I first<\/span>\nlearned of them, having thought one was a bee<\/span> on my camera bag<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Slightly different on the plant-life scale, I tried<\/span> to get all artsy with\nsome onions hanging in a shed.<\/span>...<\/p>\n\n

The couple running the cafe have a garden<\/span> on one side where they grow a\nlot<\/span> of the veggies that they use, and on the other side of the restaurant\nthey have the wood-burning stone pizza oven, and a shed<\/span> full of firewood\nfor the thing, and some onions previously harvested from the garden.<\/p>\n\n

I took the picture from my seat in the restaurant. The reflections<\/span> in\nthe window tell me that I should<\/span> have broken out the polarization filter<\/a>\njust a bit<\/span> sooner.<\/p>\n\n

The shed used to be the bus stop across the street. They rescued it from\ndemolition when a new<\/span> bus stop was put in, moving it here where it fits\ninto the ambiance perfectly.<\/p>\n\n
