Okay, that's not really what the guy pointing was saying... or maybe it\nwas, I dunno,<\/span> I was 100<\/span> feet away.<\/p>\n\n

Kyoto Tower, is, of course, the big bright spire left of center.\nAlthough it's not that pretty, it's tall and easy to see, so it's made\ncameo appearances in my blog several times, including from close up<\/a>,\nfrom the\nsame spot as today's pictures<\/a> (Shogunuzkua<\/a>),\nfrom far away<\/a>,\nand from\nvery far away<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

I had a few spare minutes this evening, so I drove<\/span> up to Shogunzuka\n(where Anthony and I watched a helicopter<\/span> take\noff<\/a> the other day). I half worried<\/span> that it might be closed due to the\nG8 summit going on today in Kyoto. There's lots of hubbub, but not quite as\nmuch as when a US<\/span>\nPresident visits<\/a>, so Shogunzuka was fine.<\/p>\n\n

Coming over the rise from the parking lot, I was struck<\/span> by the\nsilhouettes of those at the lookout spot, so set up my tripod<\/a> to\ncapture them.<\/p>\n\n

I tried various approaches...<\/p>\n\n

I took a bunch of shots, with exposures ranging from just under a second<\/span>\nto 30 seconds. Each came out with its own character, due mostly to the\nmovement (or non-movement) of those in the foreground. I liked<\/span> a lot<\/span> of\nthem, but they'd quickly get repetitive, so I'll just share these few.<\/p>\n\n

I tried a longer-exposure wide-angle shot to capture more of what it\nfelt like to be there, but sadly, it doesn't pick up the deep dark blue\nthat still existed in the sky, the cigarette smoke from the jerk who\ndecided to stand next to me with his cancer stick, or the misquotes...<\/p>\n\n
