The caption is just a silly reference to the “art” vs.<\/i>\n“photography” discussion in my recent post about HDR<\/a>. When I\nfirst<\/span> looked this picture, I wondered<\/span> why it was a blurry<\/span> – it seemed\nmosaiced or pixelated, as if it hadn't been fully loaded from disk before\ndisplay – and I waited<\/span> for it to finish loading and to “snap” into\nfocus. I eventually<\/span> realized that it wasn't pixelated, but rather, it just\nhad a lot<\/i> of water drops that you (or, at least, I) don't notice at\nfirst.<\/p>\n\n

It's a lotus flower.<\/strike> [UPDATE<\/b>: Peter Barnes of\nBarnes Botany<\/a> left a comment<\/span><\/a>\non a followup post<\/a> indicating that this flower is a waterlily<\/b>, not a lotus.<\/span> Oops!]<\/p>\n\n

I took the shot handheld, on a cloudy, gloomy day,\nleaning precariously over a water<\/span>-lily pond, so the full-size version is not as\ncrisply focused as it could be, but it's good enough.<\/p>\n\n

In any case, even though I know what it is, it still has a strong<\/span>\n“processed” feeling to it, as if it been run through a few<\/span> Photoshop filters<\/a>. Hence,\nthe caption.<\/p>\n\n

Last month, we visited a lotus garden in Shiga (about 45 minutes away by\ncar) that I'll write more about another time. Fumie learned about the\ngarden on the blog of a fellow<\/span> fan of Kousuke Atari<\/a>, a pop<\/span> singer we've\nseen in concert many times. My first<\/span> time was in Miyajima<\/a>, and my\nseventh (I think.<\/span>.. I've lost count) was this evening, here in Kyoto, where\nhe was backed by the Kyoto Symphony\nOrchestra<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

During the intermission, a lady came up to us and introduced herself.\nShe's the lady with the blog, and had been exchanging mail with Fumie, but\nthey'd never met. So, now we've met the lotus lady. This reminded me that\nI'd not posted anything from that trip, so having arrived home from the\nconcert, here we are with a post.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

It was interesting how she could find us among the thousand or so people\nat the concert (it was a small<\/span> venue). In the seven<\/span> Kousuke Atari concerts\nI've been to, big and small, I once met<\/span> a guy<\/span> from Sweden, whose wife had\ndragged him along. Other than that, I've never noticed another “doesn't\nlook Japanese” person, so I'm probably pretty easy to pick out of the\ncrowd. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n
