Wedding\nvenues seem to always have horrible lighting: way too little light, with\nwhat <i>is<\/i> there usually being of mixed colors (e.g. fluorescent mixed\nwith incandescent, which makes for a <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-06-28\/208\">color balance<\/a>\nnightmare).<\/p>\n\n<p>This time was no exception, especially the lack of light during the\nphoto op in the lobby. <span class='nobr'>I had the<\/span> ISO cranked up, and was usually shooting\nwide open or close. <span class='nobr'>The results<\/span> were better than the <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-11-13\/278\">last time <span class='nobr'>I was<\/span> at <span class='nobr'>a\nwedding<\/span><\/a>, but <span class='nobr'>I only<\/span> had <span class='nobr'>a point<\/span>-n-shoot then. <span class='nobr'>I did do<\/span> better than the\nlast time <span class='nobr'>I had<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a real<\/span> camera at <span class='nobr'>a wedding<\/span> (my brother <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-07-15\/211\">Alan's marriage to Natalie<\/a>\ntwo years ago), due to having <span class='nobr'>a little<\/span> more skill now, and <span class='nobr'>a much<\/span> faster\nlens.<\/p>\n\n<p>Still, even with the faster lenses, many of my shots were blurry. Seriously, next to Yoko and that amazing dress, how can anyone else look good?<br\/>\n      <span class='subtle-less'>(Well, okay, anyone else except for Kevin, Tim, and Mike?)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<p>At least I'm not totally ruining the shot with my horrible &#8220;smile for\nthe camera&#8221; fake smile. <span class='nobr'>I just can<\/span>'t smile on demand in <span class='nobr'>a way<\/span> that doesn't\nlook anything but hugely dorky, so this time <span class='nobr'>I was<\/span> trying to not smile.\nThis was the only shot of the several that Ami-chan took that came out with\nme not looking sour, so I've still got work to do. (Or better yet, I'll\nstay on the other side of the camera.)<\/p>\n\n<p>I've heard that Japanese weddings can be excruciatingly long and drawn\nout productions, but the one's I've been to have all been really nice.\n(Counting my own, this was the fourth wedding I've been to in Japan.) Kevin\nand Yoko had <span class='nobr'>a combined<\/span> wedding\/reception 68 floors up that was just\nexcellent, at least from the perspectives of the couple and guests. <span class='nobr'>The photographer<\/span> they hired, however, may have <span class='nobr'>a different<\/span> opinion due to the\n&ndash; you guessed it &ndash; challenging lighting, but I'll leave that\nfor another post.<\/p>\n\n<p>Congratulations Yoko and Kevin!<\/p>\n\n\n<p><i><a href=\"\/blog\/2008-06-03\/829\">Continued here...<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I attended the wedding of an old friend yesterday; Kevin and Yoko tied the knot on the 68th floor of Yokohama's Landmark Tower, the tallest building in Japan.
