That depends, of course, on how\nwhat fields you've entered into Lightroom, what you've entered into them,\nand your goal for the label.<\/p>\n\n<p>My plugins for Adobe Lightroom that allow you to export photos to online\nphoto-hosting services <span class='nobr'>(for: &nbsp;<a class='quiet'\nhref=\"\/blog\/photo-tech\/lightroom-zenfolio\/\">Zenfolio<\/a>\n&nbsp;&middot;&nbsp;<\/span> <a class='quiet'\nhref=\"\/blog\/photo-tech\/lightroom-smugmug\/\">SmugMug<\/a>\n&nbsp;&middot;&nbsp; <a class='quiet'\nhref=\"\/blog\/photo-tech\/lightroom-flickr\/\">Flickr<\/a>\n&nbsp;&middot;&nbsp; <span class='nobr'><a class='quiet'\nhref=\"\/blog\/photo-tech\/lightroom-picasaweb\/\">Picasa\nWeb<\/a> )<\/span> allow for <span class='nobr'>a simple<\/span> selection from among the main\nlabeling metadata fields, but <span class='nobr'>I knew<\/span> early on that it wasn't powerful\nenough for some people's captioning needs, so while I've been working on\nthe <span class='nobr'>Lightroom 2.0<\/span> versions of my plugins for the last many months, <span class='nobr'>I built<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a new<\/span> and powerful way for the plugin user to specify how the plugin should\nconstruct the captions that it sends to the photo-hosting service.<\/p>\n\n<p>I've gone ahead and grafted that support back into the 1.x plugins\n(which should also work on the 2.0 beta) for Zenfolio and SmugMug as <span class='nobr'>a\ntest.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p>The new captioning method allows you to create templates that mix free\ntext and metadata tokens, and to build up those templates into <span class='nobr'>a personal<\/span>\nlist of captioning presets.<\/p>\n\n<p>I describe the template system here:\n\n<a href=\"\/blog\/lightroom-goodies\/template\/\">Preset Templates in my Lightroom Plugins<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p>Because this template system was developed originally for the\nas-yet-unreleased <span class='nobr'>Lightroom 2.0,<\/span> they haven't gotten much general-public\ntesting, so the UI might be <span class='nobr'>a bit<\/span> awkward (so I'm looking for\ncomments\/suggestions that might make it better.)<\/p>\n\n<p>Also, be aware that the list of template tokens may change from release\nto release. <span class='nobr'>It's been suggested<\/span> that it would be better for the tokens to\nbe case-insensitive, which means, for example, that I'd have to rename\ntokens like <tt>{yyyy}<\/tt> and <tt>{YYYY}<\/tt> (the current year, and the\nyear the photo was taken, respectively).<\/p>\n\n<p>For now, the new captioning system is optional, so these new versions\nshould continue to work fine for those not wishing to try the new one. <span class='nobr'>I\nhope.<\/span> We'll see.<\/p>\n\n<p>If things go well, I'll graft this into my Flickr and PicasaWeb plugins as well.<\/p>\n\n<p>Latest versions are here:&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<a class='quiet'\nhref=\"\/blog\/photo-tech\/lightroom-zenfolio\/\">plugin for Zenfolio<\/a>\n&nbsp;&middot;&nbsp; <a class='quiet'\nhref=\"\/blog\/photo-tech\/lightroom-smugmug\/\">plugin for SmugMug<\/a><\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photo metadata has evolved a mix of seemingly comparable ways to label a photo.
