Anthony's US passport is about to expire, so we need to renew it at the\nUS Consulate in Osaka. Hopefully the trip goes better than last time I had<\/span> to go\nthere<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<\/a>\n\n\n

We've got all the paperwork ready, but for a while<\/span> had trouble finding\nhis birth certificate. Eventually, I had to<\/span> make contingency plans and\ncheck to see how to get a copy<\/span> (from the State of California), and was\nshocked to find that it takes, on average, three months to get one!<\/p>\n\n

However, that's nothing compared to how long it takes to get a simple<\/span> copy\nof a marriage<\/span> certificate:<\/p>\n\n

Two to three YEARS<\/big><\/b><\/center>\n\n

I'd never believe these ridiculous wait times for simple copies of\ndocuments already in the State's computers, except that it's right there on\nthe California\nDepartment of Public Health web site<\/a>, a screen<\/span> capture of which is at\nright.<\/p>\n\n

Wow, our tax dollars at work.<\/p>\n\n

Luckily, we found our copy and so we should be all set.<\/p>\n\n

We're on a roll.... Fumie and I both<\/span> renewed our driver's licences<\/a>\nyesterday in a smooth<\/span> but time-consuming wasted day.<\/p>\n\n
