Of course, I was somewhat<\/span> exaggerating with my previous post, Just Like That, Kyoto's\nCherry-Blossom Season Ends<\/a>, because cherry-blossom season doesn't end\nthe day after full bloom any more than blowing out the first candle on a\ncake<\/span> ends a birthday<\/span> party. The weather – very strong haze and\noccasional rain – isn't nearly as nice as the weekend was<\/a>,\nbut there's still plenty of Cherry-Blossom Joie de\nVivre<\/i><\/a> left in Kyoto.<\/p>\n\n

I realized this morning that I'd neglected to revisit the trees on the\ngrounds of the Old Imperial Palace that were featured in a post<\/span> three weeks\nago completely bare and\nforlorn looking<\/a>, so I decided<\/span> to take a bicycle<\/span> ride with Anthony over\nto check it out today.<\/p>\n\n

The main tree in the first photo of the three-week-ago post was\nessentially devoid of blossoms, they having budded, bloomed, and fallen in\nthe intervening three weeks...<\/p>\n\n

The second tree (the “raintree-like” one) was the same, but in that\nimmediate vicinity they stood alone as a different<\/span> variety from the dozens\nof other cherry trees that were utterly spectacular.<\/p>\n\n

The shade of pink was just wonderful, and the atmosphere laid back and\nthoroughly enjoyable. The haze actually<\/span> made photography easier, although I\ncould<\/span> have done with a bit<\/span> more overall brightness.<\/p>\n\n

I noticed these gentlemen just as they were clinking their paper cups in\n“cheers”, but was too slow to capture it. That would have been an excellent\nshot.<\/p>\n\n

There were plenty of places like this to enjoy the blossoms with a few<\/span>\nfriends, and feel you had the whole earth to yourself (although I admit<\/span> to\nhaving cloned this image to deemphasize a few<\/span> heads visible on the other\nside of the hedge, but for the record, none of the other images on this\npost have had any cloning).<\/p>\n\n

Given a bit of maneuvering and patience, it wasn't too hard to get nice\nscenes without too much human presence (like “Typical Scene #1” above), but\nin looking over the 197 photos I took,<\/span> I found<\/span> that at least for the\nwide-angle views, I preferred<\/span> those that include people. It was a<\/span> nice\natmosphere, so I guess<\/span> I like<\/span> the photos that reflect that.<\/p>\n\n

Blossom petals were falling continuously, but occasionally a gust<\/span> of\nwind would whip up a mini<\/span> blizzard of them. It's quite<\/span> impossible to\ncapture, but this next shot gives a hint<\/span> of the tail end of one such\nsquall...<\/p>\n\n\n

At five years old, Anthony couldn't care less about all this “blossom”\nstuff. He much preferred<\/span> showing Nanasa-chan, a classmate<\/span> from kindergarten\nwhom we happened to run into, the kickstand that was added to his bike\nearlier this afternoon.<\/p>\n\n
