Since we still don't have any cherry blossoms yet, at least in my part\nof Kyoto (although the first ones should start popping out soon), I'll\nfinish up with the pics from yesterday's trip to see what remains of the plum blossoms at the Kitano\nTenmangu Shrine<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Yesterday's pictures were from the free areas of the shrine. It costs<\/span> 600 yen (about six bucks) to visit the gardens, although that includes a\nbit<\/span> of plum tea and some crackers. The garden<\/span> has two parts, a lower<\/span> part\nsplit by a little<\/span> stream, and an upper plum orchard.<\/p>\n\n

The trees were pretty threadbare, with only a few<\/span> sprinkles of blossoms\non an otherwise bare wood cake (so to speak).<\/p>\n\n

Some of the plum varieties were so fluffy and so deeply saturated with\ncolor that they made the fluffy pink cherry blossoms I\nposted<\/span> earlier<\/a> look positively drab.<\/p>\n\n

I don't know what's up with these trees, but they had some seriously misdirected branches...<\/p>\n\n

This final picture is not pretty, but I find<\/span> it photographically\ninteresting because it looks as if I used<\/span> a fill<\/span> flash to compensate for\nthe bright background (I was<\/span> facing almost directly up), but no flash was\nused. I metered<\/span> the exposure on the non-sky areas, and frankly expected the\nbackground to blow out the rest of the image, but it turned out sort of\nokay.<\/p>\n\n
