(The <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/ja.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%E4%BA%AC%E9%83%BD%E3%83%BB%E6%9D%B1%E5%B1%B1%E8%8A%B1%E7%81%AF%E8%B7%AF\">Wikipedia\npage<\/a> for the event says that over <span class='nobr'>a million<\/span> people will visit during\nthe 10-day-run, and <span class='nobr'>I believe<\/span> it.)<\/p>\n\n<p>Here's scans from a four-page pamphlet about the event:\n\n\nthese scans: <a href=\"\/i\/Kyoto-Hanatoro-2008a.jpg\">page\n1<\/a> &middot; <a href=\"\/i\/Kyoto-Hanatoro-2008b.jpg\">page\n2<\/a> &middot; <a href=\"\/i\/Kyoto-Hanatoro-2008c.jpg\">page\n3<\/a> &middot; <a href=\"\/i\/Kyoto-Hanatoro-2008d.jpg\">page\n4<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>The light-up area is just south of me, so when <span class='nobr'>I\nvisited<\/span> with my friend Britto this evening, we entered into the lightup\narea from the north. Unfortunately, the north third of so of the area is\nreally lame (relatively speaking; it's still wonderful, but nothing at all\nlike what follows after you pass south through Maruyama park).<\/p>\n\n<p>Unfortunately<sup>2<\/sup>, <span class='nobr'>I didn't<\/span> realize how much nicer it would be\nlater on, so <span class='nobr'>I wasted<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a lot<\/span> of time in the lame area at the beginning,\nonly to find that it got better and better (as my battery got lower and\nlower). The big &#8220;doh!&#8221; moment came when <span class='nobr'>I found<\/span> that my spare battery was\nnot charged. Toward\nthe start upriver, they were spaced out and washed in soft green light from\n<span class='nobr'>a lanterns<\/span> along the banks. Oh well. This was <span class='nobr'>a very<\/span> stylized modern\ncar meant to evoke <span class='nobr'>a feeling<\/span> of the old 1930s (?) classics. <span class='nobr'>I should<\/span> go\nback tomorrow when <span class='nobr'>I can<\/span> actually see it clearly.
