In my earlier cherry-blossom previews, I featured<\/span> pictures from years\npast (standard cherry\nblossoms<\/a>, some crepe-paper fluffy\nblossoms<\/a>, and some plum\nblossoms<\/a>), so for today's post I'd show what Kyoto's cherry blossoms\nlook like today<\/i>.<\/p>\n\n

Around lunchtime, I found<\/span> myself on the grounds of Kyoto's Imperial\nPalace, which is filled with all kinds of cherry trees. Pictured above is a\nnice<\/span> stand of four surrounded by an old bamboo fence, but like the others,\nit's not yet their time. In three<\/span> weeks or so, they'll be glorious<\/i>.\n(See yesterday's timelapse\nmovie<\/a> for a sense<\/span> of the timing.)<\/p>\n\n

This next one features a raintree-shaped tree that will certainly be\nstunning, but it's still bare, just as it was last fall when it appeared at\nthe bottom of a fall-colors<\/a> post.<\/p>\n\n

The palace grounds are not without their color; there are a few<\/span> trees\nbrimming with pink blossoms and a few<\/span> with white or light pinks...<\/p>\n\n

Sadly, photographing for the blossoms on a clear<\/span> day calls for an\nexposure that lets in so much light from the sky that the sky tends to get\nwashed out like in the first two shots, or blown out altogether\n(essentially turning the sky white in the photo). That happened to this\nlast shot, so I lifted<\/span> the properly-exposed sky from another picture and\ndropped in this one to restore the photo to an accurate representation of\nthe scene. I didn't<\/span> do that great a job<\/span> of it, but if you didn't notice\nuntil I mentioned<\/span> it, perhaps it's good enough.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
