Photos in that post were looking down the canal toward where\ntoday's photo was taken.<\/p>\n\n<p>The photos in today's post, of course, were not taken today; they were\ntaken in late April last year after most cherry blossoms in this area were\nlong gone. <span class='nobr'>The blossoms<\/span> here are of <span class='nobr'>a late<\/span>-blooming variety that appeared\non the post <a href=\"\/blog\/2007-04-25\/436\">10 Gallons of\nBlossoms on a 5-Gallon Branch<\/a>, and also on <span class='nobr'>a hot<\/span> July's <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-07-01\/506\">Cooling Off with Pastel\nCherry-Blossom Desktop Backgrounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Picking up on yesterday's <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2008-03-01\/753\">Selective Focus<\/a> post, <span class='nobr'>I thought<\/span> I'd show <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> of the many different compositions that <span class='nobr'>I tried<\/span>\nwhile applying my &#8220;carpet bombing&#8221; The boat, by the way, is one of several cherry-blossom\nsightseeing boats that ply the canal during the spring when the canal is\nlined with cherry blossoms (<a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-04-12\/420#028573\">as seen here<\/a>, and\nin one of my first posts several years ago, <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2005-04-17\/19\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n<p>The photographic issues discussed on this post are of the most basic\nnature, straight from basic intuition and Photography 101, but <span class='nobr'>I wrote<\/span>\nabout them because they gave me an excuse to post more cherry blossoms\n\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n<p>I still have my best &#8220;<a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2008-02-18\/743\">snow at the Heian Shrine<\/a>&#8221;\nphotos to post, and the current forecast if for more snow early next week,\nand with all the snow that's been in my blog lately, <span class='nobr'>I thought<\/span> today would\nmake for <span class='nobr'>a nice<\/span> change.<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Being March already, I thought I'd look forward to Kyoto's cherry-blossom season, which should be ramping up in to full swing in a month or so.
