Continuing in a series about Sunday's snow in Kyoto, and\nthe Heian Shrine<\/a>, following after yesterday's Snowy Gardens of the Heian\nShrine, Part I<\/span><\/a>, we move over toward the north-east gardens....<\/p>\n\n

The stepping stones seen above are apparently a big<\/span> draw, but they\ndidn't seem particularly interesting to me on this day. I was more<\/span>\ninterested in how the lattice roof (as mentioned yesterday) made for an\narea that looked like a little<\/span> porch area for enjoying the gardens.<\/p>\n\n

The shot of the ducks had some green in the trees, but overall it just\nlooked drab until I turned<\/span> it into monochrome and pumped up the contrast. I wish the<\/span> ducks were more prominent, but I like<\/span> it anyway.<\/p>\n\n

This is one of the few shots were I actually<\/span> captured the blue sky. I was exposing<\/span> for the snow, so the sky was blown out in most shots (that is,\nthe sky was recorded as pure white because the sensor couldn't handle the\nphoto overload). The “Covered Bridge” shot, for example, has quite a bit<\/span> of\nblue sky and cloud detail that appears when I lower<\/span> the exposure way down\n(one of the benefits of shooting in raw mode<\/a>). I may try<\/span> some HDR<\/a>\nprocesses on it when I'm not feeling so sick nor so busy as today.<\/p>\n\n

This was another that had a touch of color that detracted from the\nimage, so I rendered<\/span> this one as monochrome as well.<\/p>\n\n

Of course, Anthony couldn't care less about the beauty, at least not\nwhen there was ice to be poked and broken. Here, he found a bucket<\/span> of water\n(kept by the wooden covered bridge for fire emergencies) that had a thin<\/span>\nlayer of ice...<\/p>\n\n

About the time of the ice poking, the snow, which had started a minute<\/span>\nearlier, really ramped up, so that the Random Quaint Bridge was getting\nharder to see...<\/p>\n\n

But that was just the start. A few minutes<\/span> later, it really<\/i> started to snow....<\/p>\n\n
