Anthony got in free. <span class='nobr'>We were the<\/span> first to\nenter, the two photographers behind us immediately ran to the far\ngardens, while we took <span class='nobr'>a more<\/span> leisurely pace.<\/p>\n\n<p>Many areas of the gardens have bamboo lattice that support the &#8220;crimson\nweeping-willow cherry trees&#8221; that populate the grounds. (<span class='nobr'>I don't<\/span> know their\nname in English, but the Japanese is <i>benishidarezakura<\/i> &ndash; <span class='nobr'>\u7d05\u679d\u5782\u685c.)<\/span>\n\nIn <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> months, these lattice will be supporting <span class='nobr'>a heavy<\/span> burden of\nintense pink. There's <span class='nobr'>a major<\/span> street 60 yards away, the huge intersection of\nMarutamachi and Higashiooji is just two tenths of <span class='nobr'>a mile<\/span> away, and my own\nhouse is less than four tenths of <span class='nobr'>a mile<\/span> away.
