It's snowing like gangbusters this evening in Kyoto, and the forecast is\nmore through tomorrow afternoon, so I'm hoping to wake up to a wonderful<\/span>\nblanket of snow, a better<\/span> version of the light snow that made for some wonderful pictures at the\nHeian Shrine<\/a> earlier in the week.<\/p>\n\n

The shots on today's post are from that same outing last week, of the\nJingu Michi Street bridge over the Kyoto Biwako Canal, which is between our\nplace and the shrine. The bright<\/span> orange sides of the bridge offered the\nfirst thing for Anthony to push snow from once we left our place, and\nbelieve me, for a five<\/span>-year-old boy, pushing snow off things is the\npinnacle of fun.<\/p>\n\n

The water level in the canal is about six feet lower than normal, due to\nconstruction and repair elsewhere along its length, so it's not very\npretty. At least<\/span> there are a few<\/span> ducks. It's hard to<\/span> see in the shot above,\nbut the lower water level has exposed a bicycle<\/span> that, sadly, someone dumped\ninto the canal.<\/p>\n\n

But, the snow helps things look better, perhaps because it helps make it\nlook like cherry-blossom season. Here's a shot<\/span> from Easter evening, last\nApril:<\/p>\n\n

That was from a group of evening long-exposure\ncherry-blossom<\/a> shots. A different group of night exposures<\/a>\nleads with a photo<\/span> looking at the same section of canal, but from the\nopposite end, toward the bridge. The same goes<\/span> for this post<\/a>, and probably a\nbunch<\/span> more that I don't<\/span> recall at the moment. It can be<\/span> a photogenic<\/span> area.<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, back to this week and the snow....<\/p>\n\n

I'm not sure what Anthony was thinking when I took<\/span> the shot above, but I\nlove<\/span> the pensive look on his face.<\/p>\n\n

The shot above seems remarkably bland to me, but I include<\/span> it here to\nshow how the metal post cover is part of the bridge, to offer some context\nfor it in the show below, which I think<\/span> is a little<\/span> less bland.<\/p>\n\n\n

Finally moving along with Anthony toward the shrine, I got a<\/span> shot back\ntoward the bridge.
