Today was one of those “Why I Hate<\/span> Living in\nKyoto<\/a>” days.<\/p>

We awoke to a touch of fresh snow this\nmorning, so Anthony and I headed<\/span> out to play in it for an hour before he\nhad to go to school. His play involved<\/span> knocking snow off of anything that\nheld it, and mine involved a Nikon<\/span> D200 and a 17-55 f\/2.8\nzoom<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

I took 249 pictures, of which 228 avoided the cutting room floor\n(including the iffy crow\nand snow<\/a> shot I posted<\/span> earlier). Of those<\/span> that survived, there must be\nabout 50 that are – to me – just stunning.<\/p>\n\n

I include the shot above in the “stunning” category, so perhaps you can\nuse it as a benchmark<\/span> to decide whether my comments are realistic or\nblinded by narcissism (but do click on it to see the larger version before\nmaking your decision). We were at<\/span> the Heian Shrine when the snow really\nstarted to come down, and I just<\/span> snapped away as Anthony played.<\/p>\n\n

Of course, it's been two years since I got<\/span> my\nD200<\/a>, so by now, “snapping away” means that I did<\/span> put some thought into\nit, such as composition to include the ornate shrine sub-building behind\nhim, and the framing to include the trail left when he rolled a snowball<\/span>\nfor a snowman.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n

For a while, the snow was as intense as the burn was two weeks ago at\nthe exact same spot he's standing (see Intense Burn: Shinto Rite at\nthe Heian Shrine<\/a>). The picture<\/span> above is just a crop<\/span>; here's the full\nwidth of the frame:<\/p>\n\n

Maybe I'm just enamored with snow<\/a>, or Kyoto<\/a>, or Anthony<\/a>, or\nmy own\nphotography<\/a>, but I think<\/span> the shots from this morning are amazing. As I was<\/span> looking through them, my head almost exploded as I tried<\/span> to decide what\nto share. I couldn't<\/span> very well post all 50ish despite a strong<\/span> desire to do\nso, and I went<\/span> around and around with ideas before I punted<\/span> and decided to\npost just the two of Anthony (and the extra crop). I figure<\/span> people are\nprobably getting sick of snow pictures by now; I'll post more from today at\na later<\/span> date.<\/p>\n\n

A few hours after all that snow, it had all melted away. After school,\nAnthony wanted to go for a bike<\/span> ride (having ridden by himself<\/a> for the\nfirst time yesterday). I needed<\/span> to go to the post office, so he accompanied\nme.<\/p>\n\n
