Today we went out for <span class='nobr'>a ride<\/span> on the sidewalks around town, and he\nrode for extended periods without my direct help. <span class='nobr'>I wanted<\/span> to be <i>right\nthere<\/i>, so <span class='nobr'>I trotted<\/span>\/ran alongside him like <span class='nobr'>a Secret<\/span> Service agent\nrunning alongside the President's car. <span class='nobr'>It was quite<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a workout.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p>Nearing home, we stopped by a park with <span class='nobr'>a big<\/span> oval walkway, and <span class='nobr'>I told<\/span>\nhim to go around it all by himself. He wasn't keen on the idea of me not\nbeing beside him, but <span class='nobr'>I told<\/span> him I'd remain in the park, so he gave it <span class='nobr'>a\ntry.<\/span> <span class='nobr'>He started<\/span> off all by himself, and did one circuit without problem.<\/p>\n\n<p>As he approached, he was all smiles and said he wanted to continue, so\nhe did for another circuit. Approaching the end of the second time around,\nhe told me that <span class='nobr'>I didn't<\/span> have to stand there, and that <span class='nobr'>I could<\/span> go sit down. <span class='nobr'>So I did<\/span>, and watched him go around, and around, and around.<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic'><a href=\"\/i\/CA240011.jpg\"\n><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/CA240011_sm.jpg\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\"\nalt=\"Circuit #8 (or so) -- Kyoto, Japan -- Copyright 2008 Jeffrey Eric Francis Friedl\"\nid=\"ismx2\"\ntitle=\"Circuit #8 (or so) -- Kyoto, Japan -- Copyright 2008 Jeffrey Eric Francis Friedl\"\/><\/a>\n<br\/><span class='caption'>Circuit #8<\/span>\n<br\/>(or so)\n<\/div>\n\n<p>He wanted me to pretend it was <span class='nobr'>a race,<\/span> so each time he passed, <span class='nobr'>I talked<\/span> like an announcer, saying that Anthony was winning the race and going &#8220;super fast.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p>I lost exact count, but he went 17 or 18 times around the thing &ndash;\nwell over two miles' worth &ndash; without touching his feet to the ground.\nCoincidentally, that's pretty much exactly what he did the <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-06-12\/201\">first time he rode the bike<\/a>\n(with training wheels).
