I posted one set of pictures from yesterday's snow in Kyoto<\/a>,\nfrom the morning. I hope some<\/span> of the pictures were nice, but mostly they\nwere for storytelling – not for their intrinsic beauty –\nbecause the lack of beauty in the photos accurately reflected the snowy\nurban reality of the scene.<\/p>\n\n

However, later in the day, I found<\/span> myself in northern Kyoto, just before\nthe city ends and the mountains begin, just as a snowstorm<\/span> ended and a\nbrilliantly<\/span> rich, blue sky was emerging. This time, my pictures' lack of\nintrinsic beauty is a reflection<\/span> of my lack of photographic skill, because\nthe scene was stunningly beautiful.<\/p>\n\n

As with the heavy snow\nthe other day<\/a>, there wasn't all that much snow, but it was marked by\nits ability to instantly stick to whatever it touched. The picture<\/span> above is\na close<\/span> up of the tree seen in the first picture of this post — just\nlook how much snow is piled on top of the most tenuous, wispy little twigs\nand stems.<\/p>\n\n

Where the sky had not yet broken though, it was pretty much completely\nmonochromatic. Here's the same tree from a different<\/span> angle, a few<\/span> minutes\nearlier.<\/p>\n\n

Just to add a bit more color, the red of this car hood is absolutely\nblinding on my new Eizo\nmonitor<\/a>....<\/p>\n\n
