Besides offering the ability for Fumie to stand unassisted, that\nlocation also offered the largest area for us to take <span class='nobr'>a picture<\/span> in.<\/p>\n\n<p>Walking forward (North) from where <span class='nobr'>I am<\/span> standing in the picture was <span class='nobr'>a\nconsiderable<\/span> task without the aid of the little concrete wall. <span class='nobr'>But the worst<\/span> wind &ndash; far <i>far<\/i> stronger than where I'm standing in the\npictures &ndash; was at the next corner of the building 20 feet in front of\nme. <span class='nobr'>It's at a<\/span> point where the wind is rushing up the side of the cliff from\nthe ocean and pounding directly into the face of the lighthouse, thereby\ngetting forced at molten speeds around that edge. When <span class='nobr'>I tried<\/span> to make my\nway around that little corner of the walkway, the wind got under my eyelids\nin the same way you see it puffing out the jacket in the first picture\nabove. <span class='nobr'>I felt as<\/span> if <span class='nobr'>I were<\/span> sitting on the wing of <span class='nobr'>a jet<\/span> at 30,000 feet.<\/p>\n\n<p>The extremely odd (and fairly painful) feeling of wind under your eyelid\naside, the whole visit was really fun.<\/p>\n\n<p>As we were leaving it started to rain, which turned &#8220;really fun&#8221; into\n&#8220;really awful&#8221;, but once we proceeded <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> steps down the path from the\nlighthouse, the wind was less of <span class='nobr'>a physical<\/span> danger and we could get back to\nthe car pretty quickly, especially with Anthony going piggy-back on me\n(while <span class='nobr'>I held<\/span> onto his shoes, lest the wind take them: that was <span class='nobr'>a real<\/span>\nconcern that we discovered moments after the last picture above was\ntaken).<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I mentioned on my Amami Islands post, it was really really <b>really<\/b> windy for the first few days of our New-Year's visit to Amami Island (\u5944\u7f8e\u5927\u5cf6) in the East China Sea in the far south of Japan.
