I'm trying a new look for my blog....<\/p>\n\n

It's a look that I hope is more suitable for the photo-heavy content I\ntend<\/span> to produce, and lighter and simpler overall.<\/p>\n\n

I've been working on it for the last month or so. Having not really\ngrasped the essential nature of how to use CSS<\/a> (style\nsheets) for a long<\/span> time, my years of content developed a hodge<\/span>-podge of\nstyle markups that changed over time as both my knowledge of CSS and my\nsense of aesthetics changed.<\/p>\n\n

It was a monumental task to go over all the older posts to try to tidy\nthem up so that they'd at least look okay with the new style. Most were\nfine, but I had<\/span> a fair<\/span> number of specialty posts (like this one<\/a>) with\nscreenshots that appeared to float above the greenish background I was<\/span>\nusing at the time, with a drop<\/span> shadow and all the trimmings. These were not\nat all amenable to changing the background color, so I had<\/span> to visit each\none and try to fix it the best I could.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The proper solution for these kind of “blend into the background” images\nis for me to create PNG<\/a>\nformat images, which allow true transparency. I did this<\/span> for one of the\nfloating images on a recent\npost<\/a>, but it often comes at the high price of a substantially<\/span> larger\nimage size. That's why I didn't<\/span> do it for the images on today's post: it\nwould have increased the size of each threefold.<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, I hope you<\/span> find the new color scheme appealing; it was so much\nwork to change it the first time that I hope<\/span> to never have to do it again! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
