Maps from Adobe Lightroom"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p>When viewing a geoencoded photo &ndash; one where the location's\nlatitude and longitude are encoded in the metadata &ndash; in Lightroom,\nits coordinates are displayed in the metadata panel as shown below:<\/p>\n\n<div style='margin-bottom:20px' class='ic'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/Lightroom-GPS-Link-full.gif\" width=\"675\" height=\"478\"\nalt=\"GPS Coordinates in Lightroom's Metadata Viewer\"\nclass=\"raw\"\nid=\"iLightroom_GPS_Link_full\"\nindexhint=\"right\"\nstyle=\"padding: 7px; background-color:#333; border:solid #666 1px\"\ntitle=\"Screeshot of Adobe Lightroom showing the metadata panel, with photo GPS coordinates highlighted\"\/><br\/><span style='font-size:175%'>GPS Coordinates in Lightroom's Metadata Viewer<\/span><\/div>\n\n<p>(Well, it shows up if you're using <span class='nobr'>a metadata<\/span>-panel view that includes\nthe coordinates among the items to be shown, such as &#8220;all&#8221;, but you can\nalso use my <a href=\"\/blog\/2007-06-27\/503\">Lightroom\nMetadata Viewer Preset Builder<\/a> to build <span class='nobr'>a customized<\/span> metadata-panel\nview.)<\/p>\n\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/Lightroom-GPS-Link-detail.png\" width=\"306\" height=\"179\"\nclass=\"raw\"\nid=\"iLightroom_GPS_Link_detail\"\nstyle=\"float:right; padding-left:2em; padding-bottom:10px\"\/>\n\n<p>Clicking on the little arrow to the right of the coordinates brings up\nyour web browser, with the location showing in Google Maps. <span class='nobr'>In the case<\/span> of\nthe example above, it brings up <a class='quiet'\nhref=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?f=q&amp;q=34.686702,135.525455&amp;t=k&amp;spn=0.5,0.5\">this\npage at Google<\/a>, where you can see that the location is Osaka Castle\nPark, Osaka Japan, from <a class='quiet'\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-11-08\/630\">this photoshoot<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Google Maps is a wonderful service that <span class='nobr'>I and<\/span> many have enjoyed for\nyears, which is why <span class='nobr'>I include<\/span> not only this kind of link to Google Maps in\nmy <a href=\"\/blog\/2006-02-20\/152\" class='quiet'>online\nexif viewer<\/a> for appropriate images, but also an embedded Google Maps\npane. You can <a\nhref=\"\/imageinfo.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fregex.info%2Fi%2FJEF_039866_sm.jpg\">see\nit in action here<\/a>, showing the data for image used in the screenshot\nabove. Most photos that <span class='nobr'>I post<\/span> are geoencoded, and you can get the same\nexif-viewer page by following the &#8220;map &amp; image data&#8221; link under most\nphotos.<\/p>\n\n<p>Anyway, the point of this post is that <span class='nobr'>I just<\/span> <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.adobeforums.com\/webx?14@@.3c057259\/0\" class='quiet'>found\nout<\/a> that if you hold down the ALT key (PC) or Option key (Mac) while\nclicking, it'll bring up the location in <b>Yahoo! Maps<\/b> instead. This\nis most excellent!<\/p>\n\n<p>Google Maps is generally excellent, but there are times when <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-04-03\/172\">Google Maps are <span class='nobr'>a bit<\/span>\nwonky<\/a>, and sometimes they're just <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-05-06\/443\">downright freaky<\/a> compared\nto Yahoo! Maps.<\/p>\n\n<p>The location of this map is not one of them, because the US version of\nYahoo! Maps has only low-resolution data for Japan (<a\nhref=\"http:\/\/maps.yahoo.com\/index.php?ard=1&amp;lat=34.686702&amp;lon=135.525455&amp;mvt=s&amp;mag=5#mvt=s&amp;lat=34.686702&amp;lon=135.525455&amp;mag=5\">Osaka\nPark in Yahoo! Maps<\/a>). However, for many locations on Earth, Yahoo! Maps\nis at least comparable (but different, which is good), or better, so it's\ngreat having two views. <span class='nobr'>As I mention<\/span> at the bottom of <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-05-06\/443\">this post<\/a>, Google Maps\ndoesn't even mark Mexico City, one of the world's largest cities, but\nYahoo!
