{"id":664,"date":"2007-12-19T00:30:08","date_gmt":"2007-12-18T15:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2007-12-19\/664"},"modified":"2007-12-19T00:30:08","modified_gmt":"2007-12-18T15:30:08","slug":"fotosharp-16-camera-raincoat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2007-12-19\/664","title":{"rendered":"FotoSharp 16&#8243; Camera RainCoat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n<p>I've been meaning to write about and recommend the <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/fotosharp.com\/raincoat_16.html\">16\" FotoSharp Camera Rain\nCover<\/a> <span class='nobr'>I picked<\/span> up last summer. <span class='nobr'>It's a remarkably<\/span> simple little cover\nthat scrunches up into <span class='nobr'>a tiny<\/span> ball in my camera bag when not in use,\nyet provides rain protection even with my big <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-11-06\/275\" class='quiet'><span class='nobr'>Nikkor 70<\/span>-200 VR\nzoom<\/a> on my D200.<\/p>\n\n<p>The pictures on <a href=\"http:\/\/fotosharp.com\/raincoat_16.html\">its web\nsite<\/a> pretty much show what it is, especially the 3rd one that shows it\nlaid out flat (on top of <span class='nobr'>a book,<\/span> to show its transparency). <span class='nobr'>It's a tube<\/span>\nwith <span class='nobr'>a smallish<\/span> opening on one end that goes over the lens, and <span class='nobr'>a big<\/span>\nopening on the other for you to get at the camera. <span class='nobr'>The size I<\/span> got cost\nabout $30, which is perhaps <span class='nobr'>a bit<\/span> pricy when you look at the materials, but\nless so when you look at the labor and the convenience of having it\ndelivered to your door ready to use.<\/p>\n\n<p>I decided that I needed something like this last spring, after my <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-06-23\/497\">rainy day<\/a> trying to take\npictures at one of Kyoto's <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-06-23\/498\">more picturesque temples<\/a>. <span class='nobr'>I'm sure that<\/span> <span class='nobr'>I presented<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a comical<\/span> sight trying to balance <span class='nobr'>a big<\/span> blue\numbrella over myself and my camera while trying to get <span class='nobr'>a picture<\/span> of <span class='nobr'>a fern<\/span>\nor something. After <span class='nobr'>a while,<\/span> <span class='nobr'>I started<\/span> to realize that the huge blue\numbrella (the same one seen in <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-09-15\/572\">this post<\/a> of Anthony\ndancing) was casting <span class='nobr'>a blue<\/span> light on my closeups. Ugh.<\/p>\n\n<p>So, <span class='nobr'>I got one<\/span> of these FotoSharp rain covers (FotoSharp calls it a\n&#8220;RainCoat&#8221;) and <span class='nobr'>I was<\/span> very pleased. <span class='nobr'>Its great<\/span> combination of portability\nand effectiveness make it <span class='nobr'>a no<\/span>-brainer to always have on hand in my camera\nbag.<\/p>\n\n<p>I've used it a few times, most recently when it started to sprinkle at\nthe <a href=\"\/blog\/2007-11-14\/635\">shrine closing\nceremony<\/a> <span class='nobr'>I posted<\/span> about last month. I've also used it as padding\nbetween items in my camera bag, to provide some measure of shade for the\ncamera\/lens on <span class='nobr'>a hot<\/span> day, and as <span class='nobr'>a flash<\/span> diffuser for impromptu close-up\nmacro work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ordering process is a bit unorthodox in this modern day: you tell\nthem what you want, they send it, if you like it, you send <span class='nobr'>a check.<\/span> If not,\nyou send it back. <span class='nobr'>It's got a<\/span> wonderful Mom &amp; Pop feel to it that's rare\nthese days.<\/p>\n\n<p>I was so happy with the one I got that <span class='nobr'>I immediately<\/span> ordered two more,\nto take back with me to Japan as gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>They have <a href=\"http:\/\/fotosharp.com\/camera_rain_covers.html\">other styles and sizes<\/a>, for all kinds of needs.<\/p>\n\n<p>In Summary: FotoSharp RainCoat: <i>highly recommended.<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I've been meaning to write about and recommend the 16\" FotoSharp Camera Rain Cover I picked up last summer.
