Just as <span class='nobr'>I did<\/span> the last time we made an\novernight trip (which was also to <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-10-03\/592\">see Kousuke Atari in\nconcert<\/a>, at <span class='nobr'>a shrine<\/span> in <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2007-10-01\/591\">Miyajima<\/a>), <span class='nobr'>I awoke<\/span> early\nto see what photo opportunities there might be in the early of morning.<\/p>\n\n<p>Unlike Miyajima and our extended time there, which produced so many nice\n(or story-telling)\npictures that <span class='nobr'>I had<\/span> to make a <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/category\/japan\/miyajima\/\">Miyajima\ncategory<\/a> on my blog, we were in Takamatsu for only <span class='nobr'>a short<\/span> time, and,\nunfortunately, were able to enjoy almost nothing of the area. <span class='nobr'>Our hotel<\/span> was\nright downtown at the port, which made for <span class='nobr'>a very<\/span> industrial &ndash; but\nstill pretty &ndash; sunrise.<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic' style='margin-bottom:20px'><a name='042510' href=\"\/i\/JEF_042510.jpg\"\n><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/JEF_042510_sm.jpg\" width=\"690\" height=\"462\"\nalt=\"Industrial Sunrise Three Minutes Before Sunrise -- Takamatu, Kagawa, Japan -- Copyright 2007 Jeffrey Eric Francis Friedl, https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/\"\nid=\"i042510\"\ntitle=\"Port of Takamatsu, Japan, before Sunrise on a brisk fall morning\"\/><\/a>\n<br\/><span class=\"camera-info robots-nocontent\">Nikon D200 + Nikkor 70-200mm f\/2.8 @ 70mm &mdash; <sup>1<\/sup><big>\/<\/big>640 sec, f\/5, ISO 640 &mdash;\n<span class='nobr'><a href=\"\/imageinfo.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fregex.info%2Fi%2FJEF_042510.jpg\">map &amp; image data<\/a> &mdash; <a href=\"\/blog\/proximity\/i\/JEF_042510.jpg\">nearby photos<\/a><\/span><\/span>\n<br\/><span class='caption'>Industrial Sunrise<\/span><br\/>Three Minutes Before Sunrise\n<\/div>\n\n<p>The Ferris wheel at left is, apparently, the &#8220;only Ferris wheel in the\nworld on top of <span class='nobr'>a book<\/span> store&#8221; (the book store, apparently, being the\nlargest in all of Japan). As <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.kotodama.net\/blog\/?p=108\">Zak notes<\/a>, Japanese people\nseem to have <span class='nobr'>a thing<\/span> for Ferris wheels. I've even had <span class='nobr'>a Ferris<\/span> wheel on my\nblog before, on a <a href=\"\/blog\/2007-09-23\/581\">Rice\nTerraces<\/a> post.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nOn the four-hour drive the previous\nevening, we stopped by <span class='nobr'>a highway<\/span> rest area that had &#8220;the world's only\nhighway-rest-area Ferris wheel.&#8221; We actually rode it, enjoying the views of\nthe nearby <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Akashi-Kaikyo_Bridge\">Akashi Straights\nBridge<\/a> that we'd just crossed, the world's longest suspension bridge (<span class='nobr'>a\nmile<\/span> and <span class='nobr'>a quarter<\/span> between the two piers, almost two and <span class='nobr'>a half<\/span> miles\ntotal).
