A year ago we took a short trip to the Ise Peninsula, an area of Japan\nfamous for its seafood in a country<\/span> that has great seafood everywhere. In a previous<\/span> post, I wrote<\/span> at length about the food at our ryokan<\/a>\nduring that trip.<\/p>\n\n

While on a drive around the area, we were in the middle of nowhere well\noff the beaten path when we came upon a huge<\/span> mountain range of oyster\nshells.<\/p>\n\n

I chatted with the lady dropping off a load<\/span> of shells. She said that<\/span> the\nthese piles represented about three month's worth of production, and that\nthe shells would be used in the production of cement. Or dog food<\/span>. I\nforget.<\/span> At least<\/span> they weren't going to waste.<\/p>\n\n
