As I'm still<\/i> waiting for word from Adobe that I can<\/span> post my Zenfolio and SmugMug\nplugins<\/a> (“frustrated” does not even being to explain my feelings on\nthis matter), I've put the time to good use, developing a plugin<\/span> for Flickr<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

To give a hint, here's what the export dialog looks like at the moment....<\/p>\n\n

The SmugMug and Zenfolio plugins also got the ability to choose how the\nTitle (Zenfolio) or Caption (SmugMug) is derived, as shown in the “Title \/\nDescription” section of this screenshot.<\/p>\n\n

The Lightroom\nExport-Plugin SDK<\/a> includes a sample<\/span> export-to-Flickr plugin, and\nalthough I have<\/span> not really looked at it since I tested<\/span> a version<\/span> of it a\ncouple<\/span> of months ago, I've heard that it's fairly bare-bones from a Flickr<\/span>\nuser's perspective. Mine, which I hope<\/span> to release soon, is perhaps a step<\/span>\ntoward a more<\/span> complete user experience.<\/p>\n\n

(I should explain that the consulting I did<\/span> for Adobe was to help test\nand debug the SDK and its “Lightroom SDK Guide” documentation. In order<\/span> to\nhelp ensure that the documentation was correct and complete, I explicitly<\/span> refrained from looking at the sample code. Thus, I had to<\/span> read the docs and\ntry to understand things that way, and as a result,<\/span> I hope I<\/span> was able to\nprovide better feedback for them. I didn't<\/span> use it as a Flickr<\/span> user, either,\nbecause I'm not a Flickr<\/span> user.)<\/p>\n\n

Since the SDK's Flickr plugin was for demonstration, it contains some\nthings I would<\/span> prefer not to see in a real<\/span> plugin, such as the various\nitems it adds to the File and Library menus. My plugins<\/span> don't add any of\nthose. (I may<\/span> add a “show these images at XXXX” entry to the Library menu,\nbut there are some issues still to be worked out, such as where on earth I\ncan<\/span> find the time<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n

Since I'm not a Flickr user, I'm not entirely<\/span> sure whether I've grouped\nthings reasonably, or what missing features would be most appreciated. I'd like to<\/span> have a “replace” checkbox, but one needs a Pro<\/span> account to replace\nimages, so if someone at Flickr wants to comp me a pro<\/span> account, I'd be able<\/span>\nto write that \ud83d\ude42 Oh, and Flickr, if you want to give me written permission\nto use your logo, I can add<\/span> that branding to the dialog header, as I've\ndone with the Zenfolio and SmugMug plugins<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
