Besides a lot of\nrock<\/a> at Osaka Castle Park, one is also prone to find a lot<\/span> of people\ntaking pictures. For reasons<\/span> I can't<\/span> explain, I often<\/span> find myself taking\npictures of people taking pictures, although I've only posted the results a\nfew<\/span> times (here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>).<\/p>

I'll add to that list today....<\/p>\n\n\n

I have the same Nikkor\n17<\/span>-55mm f\/2.8<\/a> he seems to be using, but my Nikon D200 is dwarfed by\nwhat looks to be a Nikon<\/span> D2 of some sort (which is about the same size as\nthe Nikon D3 shown here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

The shot above really should be a throwaway,<\/span> but something just draws me\nto it.<\/p>\n\n

I got a peek at the photo that Emi took of her parents, and was\nastounded at how good it was. Anthony could have done a bit<\/span> better, but\nhe's twice her age. I could<\/span> have done better still, I think,<\/span> but sadly, not\n20× better, so I think<\/span> Emi wins with the highest skill-to-age ratio.<\/p>\n\n

The next picture is an optical illusion.<\/p>\n\n

I stopped for dinner in Kyoto on the way home, and found myself sitting\nnext to two professional photographers. The optical<\/span> illusion is that while\nthe camera looks a bit<\/span> small next to that drink glass, without any other\npoint of reference in the photo you don't realize that that's the biggest\ndrink glass I've ever seen in my life. Even if you could lift it, you\nwouldn't need to because you could just bob your head down into the thing\nto drink like a horse.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The camera's size matched the glass. It was huge<\/span>. I tried<\/span> holding it,\nand felt dwarfed and feeble. You might<\/span> recall my reaction<\/a> when I first<\/span>\nheld a Nikon<\/span> D200 – filled with words like “beefy” and “heavy”\n– but this camera puts mine to shame. It looks<\/span> to be a Pentax\n67<\/span><\/a> medium-format (6x7) SLR. The body alone<\/span> (that is, without the lens)\nis 20% wider, 25% taller, and 30% thicker than my D200, and at 3.7 pounds,\na stunning<\/span> 100% heavier.<\/p>\n\n

It's a film camera that accepts film with 10 frames on a roll.<\/span> In what must<\/span> be the most colossal waste of film, its owner snapped a picture<\/span> of\nme.<\/p>\n\n

He had six frames remaining before he had to change film.<\/p>\n\n

By the way, for the record, it is unknown what the drink in the huge\nglass was. I asked<\/span> the guy, to which he replied “I don't<\/span> know. I asked<\/span> for\na Heineken,<\/span> and they gave me this. I think<\/span> they must have misunderstood my\norder.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
