As I mentioned yesterday<\/a>, I went to<\/span> Osaka to visit some friends. We met at<\/span> Osaka Castle Park<\/a> (a lovely<\/span>\nplace that I'll write about another time<\/a>) and enjoyed the afternoon\ntogether.<\/p>\n\n

I had my camera with me, of course, and took the opportunity to try my\nhand at some impromptu family portraits.....<\/p>\n\n

I've known Kevin for the better part of 20 years, and he attended my\nwedding 10 years ago. We don't get to meet very often because he lives up\ntoward Tokyo, so I was<\/span> happy that a business<\/span> trip brought him down my\nway.<\/p>\n\n

I apparently met Alex once at an outing in Tokyo about 15 years ago, but\nto my shame I didn't<\/span> remember. (Did I visit<\/span> Tokyo 15<\/span> years ago? Must...\nregenerate... brain... cells.)<\/p>\n\n

So, it was my distinct pleasure to re-meet him and his family. It turns<\/span> out that he lives in Kobe (within a couple<\/span> hours by train), so hopefully\nwe'll be able to get together again soon.<\/p>\n\n\n

There was just something about Nao that the camera loved. I don't<\/span> know\nhow to explain it because I don't<\/span> really understand it myself, except to\nsay that he had amazing “presence.” Maybe it's what they call the\n“it<\/i> facter”? The picture<\/span> above was just a random<\/span> snapshot I made<\/span>\nwith my walk-around 18-200mm lens while he was playing, yet his gaze just\ncommands the image. (The others shown here were taken with a pro<\/span>-level 85mm\nf\/1.4 lens.)<\/p>\n\n

Back to the family portraits, I also tried<\/span> some full-length\nversions....<\/p>\n\n
