And Anthony.<\/p>\n\n<p>What I neglected to bring was enough time, light, or skill.<\/p>\n\n<p>I got there just before the last direct rays of light disappeared, and\nwithout the dynamic clouds of yesterday, there were no visual fireworks in\nthe sky, so the whole point of being there sort of vanished.<\/p>\n\n<p>The lack of light meant that I'd need longer shutter speeds to\nphotograph whatever remained, especially if <span class='nobr'>I were<\/span> playing with the\nteleconverter, which turns <span class='nobr'>a 200mm<\/span> f\/2.8 lens into <span class='nobr'>a 340mm<\/span> f\/4.5 lens: I'd\nneed longer shutter times to handle the reduced light, and also to offset\nthe increased effect of vibration and shake that <span class='nobr'>a longer<\/span> focal length\nresults in.<\/p>\n\n<p>So, <span class='nobr'>I'd need to<\/span> be able to hold the camera very steady to get anything\nusable. <span class='nobr'>I took a<\/span> lot of pictures, but the aforementioned lack of skill\nresulted in most being throw-away.<\/p>\n\n<p>The shot above is at 340mm, at only 1\/40th of <span class='nobr'>a second,<\/span> and although\nit's not super sharp, even with the VR and the monopod, <span class='nobr'>I'm still<\/span> proud of\nmyself. <span class='nobr'>It ranks<\/span> up there with the &#8220;Thatched Wall, Edge On&#8221; They both had flashing tri-color LEDs on\ntheir wheels, and one had <span class='nobr'>a very<\/span> bright flashing LED headlight.<\/p>\n\n<p>I knew that it would make for an interesting long exposure (where &#8220;long&#8221;\nin this case means &#8220;about one second&#8221; &ndash; the shot about is 1.8\nseconds) which absolutely requires <span class='nobr'>a tripod.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<p>I didn't have a tripod, of course, which is why the picture above is all\nout of focus.
