In my previous post on our trip to Miyajima<\/a>\nnear Hiroshima, Japan, I showed<\/span> the main gate of the Itsukushima Shrine (\u53b3\u5cf6\u795e\u793e\u3001\u5bae\u5cf6) at low tide<\/a>.\nThis time I have<\/span> a few<\/span> pictures of the shrine itself at low tide.<\/p>\n\n

The shrine is mostly over piers above water (high tide) or mud (low\ntide), and I should<\/span> start of by noting that it's much more picturesque when\nover water (as in the shot at the start of my first post<\/a> from the\ntrip). To me, today's pictures are more “interesting” than “pretty,” and\nare probably neither to anyone else, but it's my blog so here they are.<\/p>\n\n

The “new wood” might be due to damage from a major<\/span> typhoon several years ago.<\/p>\n\n

Some of the buildings in the temple complex are devoid of color, while\nothers are brilliantly orange. The covered<\/span> walkway in the shot below is\nbrilliant even in the dull overcast.<\/p>\n\n

The circular puddle in the center of the shot above has the rather\nambitious name “reflecting pond,” through which the little stream that I mentioned<\/span> on my previous\npost<\/a> flows.<\/p>\n\n\n

It doesn't look that much better in the final shot. Clear skies (rather\nthan overcast) and deeper water would have given the water a prettier<\/span> blue,\nrather than the muddy look we see here. Oh well, maybe on my next trip...<\/p>\n\n
