{"id":6,"date":"2005-04-07T13:35:00","date_gmt":"2005-04-07T04:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2005-04-07\/6"},"modified":"2015-04-02T19:00:07","modified_gmt":"2015-04-02T10:00:07","slug":"6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2005-04-07\/6","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s Tough Being a Cherry Blossom This Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img_right\"><a href=\"\/i\/pic\/2005-04-02_10:56.51__00252.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/sakura1.jpg\" width=\"333\" height=\"250\"\nid=\"isakura1\"\/><\/a><\/div>\n\n<p>Season changes in Japan tend to arrive like clockwork, and few changes\nare as well predicted (and highly anticipated) as the blooming of the\ncherry blossoms (&#8220;<a\nhref=\"http:\/\/dict.regex.info\/cgi-bin\/j-e\/S=48\/fg=r\/inline\/dosearch?sDict=on&amp;H=PW&amp;L=J&amp;T=sakura&amp;NOFUZZY=on&amp;WC=none&amp;fg=r&amp;S=48&amp;I=on\">sakura<\/a>&#8221;).\n<span class='nobr'>A cherry<\/span>-blossom tree in full bloom is truly more\nthan the sum of its parts, presenting an almost unearthly, indescribable\nbeauty that no photograph can capture (although that doesn't stop hordes of\nboth amateur and professional photographers from trying, myself\nincluded.)<\/p>\n\n<p>Thus, it was with doubtless disappointment that the throngs of tourists\nthat descend upon Kyoto this past weekend (many, certainly, from all over\nJapan, with tours scheduled long in advance) were treated to chilly\nfall-like brisk winds and an unwelcome but quite manifest lack of cherry\nblossoms. <span class='nobr'>If you looked<\/span> carefully, though, you could see <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> blossoms\nhere and there (of which the picture above is <span class='nobr'>a pair<\/span>), but that's like\nseeing <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> dabs of paint (as opposed to <span class='nobr'>a masterpiece<\/span> painting), so it's\nof little consolation.<\/p>\n\n<p>Yesterday (Wednesday) it was finally much warmer and there were <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span>\nrare areas that were finally almost in full bloom. <span class='nobr'>I went out<\/span> for <span class='nobr'>a bike<\/span>\nride with <a href=\"http:\/\/pic.regex.info\/anthony\">Anthony<\/a> and Katsunori\nShimada, <span class='nobr'>a long<\/span>-time friend, and we sat at a <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/map.yahoo.co.jp\/pl?nl=35.0.7.463&amp;el=135.46.31.573&amp;la=1&amp;fi=1&amp;sc=2\">little\nplaza near Shijo\/Kawamachi<\/a> and it was just wonderful.<\/p>\n\n<p>I thought today might be <em>The Day<\/em> that widespread blossomage\nmight happen, but it turns out that it's cold and rainy, so it seems that\nMother Nature has it in for the cherry-blossom viewing season this\nyear.<\/p>\n\n<p>From my <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/map.yahoo.co.jp\/pl?nl=35.0.17.809&amp;el=135.47.7.547&amp;la=1&amp;sc=2&amp;CE.x=252&amp;CE.y=287\">front\ndoor<\/a> <span class='nobr'>I can<\/span> see over to an area adjacent to <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/map.yahoo.co.jp\/pl?nl=35.0.24.497&amp;el=135.47.7.427&amp;la=1&amp;sc=2&amp;CE.x=203&amp;CE.y=93\">where\nI'll be moving<\/a> in the fall, around where there are lots of cherry\ntrees. <span class='nobr'>I can see<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a half<\/span>-hearted attempt at blooming, with the current\nresult looking more like <span class='nobr'>a molting<\/span> animal than the heavenly-soft puffs of\nbeauty all are looking forward to.<\/p>\n\n<p>Tomorrow and the next day are supposed to be <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/weather.yahoo.co.jp\/weather\/jp\/26\/6100\/26105.html\">sunny<\/a>\nbut not warm, with rain following on Sunday and into the week.
