My blog is not a photoblog. Sometimes I post<\/span> a pretty<\/span> picture just\nbecause it's pretty (such as these<\/a>),\nbut for the most part pictures appear simply to illustrate whatever event\nI'm writing about.<\/p>\n\n

On the other hand, the focus of a photoblog<\/b> is not the person\nposting the photos, but about the photos themselves, which must stand on\ntheir own as being beautiful, interesting, thought provoking, etc.<\/p>\n\n

The best example of a photoblog I've seen is Andrei Zmievski's<\/a> photoblog Vu<\/a> (which\nmeans “seen” in French). I've known Andrei for years, first from his\nengineering work with PHP<\/a>, then\nwhen he worked at Yahoo!. Heck, Andrei helped me with the PHP chapter for\nmy book's<\/a> most recent\nedition.<\/p>\n\n

I didn't know that Andrei was into photography until he started his photoblog<\/a>\na month<\/span> ago, and in watching it I've been struck by two things: Andrei is\nextremely well traveled (his photos are from all over the world), and he's\ngot an excellent eye for composition.<\/p>\n\n

His style is all over the map, figuratively and literally, so it's never\nboring or predictable. I really<\/span> like almost every photo he posts, but the\ntrue mark of excellence is that I find<\/span> every<\/b> photo to be\ninteresting.<\/p>\n\n

It's one of the blogs I read<\/span><\/a> via\nBloglines. He updates<\/span> it with a new<\/span> photo daily; watch it for a while<\/span> and\nyou'll be both impressed and entertained.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
