I went back today to the slope of terraced rice paddies<\/a> that\nNils and I visited<\/span> last week (where the kids played<\/a> among the\npaddies) to see it from some different angles. It's been three<\/span> months since\nrice was planted<\/a>, and\nnow some of the hundreds of fields have been harvested, and a few<\/span> were in\nprogress while I visited.<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n

The pictures on this post are of one elderly couple working on a\nfield.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Don't let the picture above fool you: these people worked, and worked\nhard<\/i>. In the scene<\/span> below, the man drove the small combine and the\nlady followed along to harvest by hand any rice that got trampled rather\nthan processed by the machine.<\/p>\n\n

The man then swung the boom of their Iseki Frontier Bi-ba 351 combine\nover to their little truck, and unloaded the rice.<\/p>\n\n

The truck being full, they headed off, presumably to unload and return\nto continue their harvest. I asked<\/span> the lady how many truckfulls they expect\nto get from the small field, and she guessed about three.<\/p>\n\n
