His response...<\/p>\n\n<div style='font-size:130%; margin:30px 0 30px 3em'><b>&#8220;<\/b>I'm not tired. Trust me, I'm not. &nbsp;<i>Trust me<\/i>.<b>&#8221;<\/b><\/div>\n\n\n<p>That's an unexpected phrase for <span class='nobr'>a four<\/span> year old. <span class='nobr'>He apparently<\/span> learned\n&#8220;trust me&#8221; earlier in the evening when <span class='nobr'>I used<\/span> it while giving\nhim some not-yucky-tasting medicine for <span class='nobr'>a mild<\/span> cough he's had. Like most\nkids, <span class='nobr'>I guess,<\/span> he has an innate fear of anything remotely medicinal. This\nfear is cultivated because the infant and kid medicines common in The\nStates have sickenly sweet flavors that are more disgusting than anything\nelse.<\/p>\n\n<p>Today's medicine, though, had <span class='nobr'>a mild<\/span> and pleasant orange flavor that <span class='nobr'>I\npre<\/span>-sampled, so <span class='nobr'>I knew<\/span> that his only objection would be mental. <span class='nobr'>He eventually<\/span> took it (and indeed, didn't dislike it), but it was tough\nconvincing him that it wouldn't immediately kill him.<\/p>\n\n<p>Anyway, it's such a joy to see him bloom linguistically like this, and\nit's fun to hear him use such unexpected phrases.
